The other half is to blame for me.
My intro came with a 3 hour drive out Geraldton way to buy his 110. He drove for half an hour, we swapped, he fell asleep so I drove the rest of the way. Typical. He lit up like a kid at christmas when he saw the Defender. I don't think I've seen him try so hard to feign disinterest in an attempt to screwdown the price. He already had the cheque in his wallet written out, not sure who he thought he was fooling!
Needless to say he drove it home. From there it was a choice between driving in my car or his...no contest. It's not the smoothest ride but I do love it. Even if it has meant cringing and hoping the neighbours aren't home when a light shows up on the dash! From the day he bought the 110 I think I've learnt more about cars than I have my whole life - and now it's a way of life with the business venture![]()

It was also my wife that got me into the oval badge. He parents owned (and still do) a 110 defender.
I thought at the time (10 years ago) that the range rover classic was the most ugly car I have ever seen, see loved them.
I have owned 4 in total and currently own 3, my perfect car is sitting in the carport -1990 range rover classic.
It is a bug that is for sure!!!!
25th July 1986, it snowed in Sydney, not that I remember. But I do remember my Dad buying a brand new diesel One-Ten from Asquith & Johnsons, apparently I kicked up such a tantrum because I wanted to go home in the Landy not mum's mazda that I got my way
I have no memory of the mazda or land cruiser that the County replaced, can barely recall the patrol that came after the County, but have a lot of memories of "the 'ruck" as I used to call it.
25th July 1986, remember that day because I was fibreglassing a canoe at Numptys place - but I digress.
I learnt to drive partly in a 2A, so I suppose that was the start. The crunch came when I came back from the snow 1978? in Lindsay Johnstones ( of A & J) Rangie.
Took 3 years though before I had my own.

My dad worked at Kellow-Falkiner in South Yarra about 1990-91 selling Land Rovers, and he always brought home a brand new disco or range rover, we used to go everywhere in them, i would have been 7 or 8 at the time, many years passed and I bought my disco in 2007, i'm obsessed!!
Wanting to see what all of this 4WD hype was that was taking my mates away from the V8 scene combined with a dislike of Japcrap (which I still hold today). My first Landy was a S3 with a 186 red motor and I was soon up to my old tricks (carb, cam, head and exhaust) and I was soon on the lookout for a wingnut kit to make for speedy diff and gearbox r&r. I'm now on my 4th Landy but my favourite was my Stage 1.
Well,i came home from the hospital as a new born in the old man's 6yr old S1,which is now owned by one of my brothers.
I suppose it all started then,it was the only car we had untill around 1972.
My father was into LR's,but they didn't interest me much at all. They seemed to much trouble for me,as he used to spend a lot of time working on them.He also had a 2 door rangie & a Rover 75 over the years,as well as numerous company owned series LR's.
Holdens were my go,easy to fix, parts were cheap, etc.
After a trip in '99 with my brother in his D1,my wife was on about getting a 4WD to go away in ,and the extra seats would be good.
So the D2 arrived in the driveway,& we still have one ,it ticks all the boxes.
