This is a turbo failure and shrapnel into the motor. The owner spoke to a rebuilder in Perth and was told the turbo failure is VERY common in the 200000k age bracket.

i do believe that the ZD30 in the Navara was still a problem, just not as big of a problem as it was in the Patrol. But the turbo failure at around 200000km being a common issue is something I have not heard. Very interesting.

What year model was your mates navara?

Well it cant be the usual Nissan ZD30 problem, Nissan assure motorists they had the problem sorted by 2003.

This young bloke at work must of ran over a chinaman.
Back in november his ZD30 Navara died, wasnt the common number 4 with a hole, turned out to be a turbo failure.
$5000 and 2 months later it has let him down yet again. This time it reved out of control till it stopped,HUGE amounts of white smoke Im told.
He hasnt paid the last bill off yet.

Sounds like the turbo repair may have not been that great, perhaps it developed an oil leak and the rest is history.
