    Discovery - 5 seat to 7 seat - Easy?

Apologies for my lack of knowledge but I am looking at purchasing a 2004 model Discovery and it only has 5 seats. I really want a 7 seater but cannot find one in the right colour etc. Can you add the additional seats? Is it easy to add the extra seats? Anyone have a pair of 3rd row seats in tan leather for sale?!

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Matt

You can, they should bolt straight in, but if the vehicle was originally sold with 5 seats you may need to have it re certified as a 7 seater.

I have read before that unless the car has rear air suspension , then it has never been certified by Land Rover with 7 seats. AFAIR this was in UK , but I think the same applies here.
This means that you would have to get an engineers certificate which is expensive even if certifiable.

I changed my D1 from five to seven seat and all it needed was an ''adjustment of records'' certificate.I had it done at Triggs Land Rover at Toronto NSW and it cost $36.I just added the slip to my rego papers at the next rego due date and they added it to the new papers. Pat

In Qld you will need a mod plate for the change of seating capacity. These can be issued by an approved person, or a QT approved engineer.

It will cost somewhere between $100-500 I would expect.

It should be pretty straightforward, I changed the seating capcity on our s3.

The air / coil suspension could be an interesting point, but personally I dont think it would be picked up....

The D1 is a bit different from the D2.
The D1 actually had a kit available for the conversion whereas the D2 is either a 5 seater or a 7 seater on the production line.

I can't see a reason why a set couldn't be retrofitted though but you might want to discuss this with the authorities (and/or an engineer) before proceeding too far.
