    wheel nut options if painting alloy wheel black

    Hi - I want to paint my D2 wheels black so I don't have to worry about brake dust...and...um...because they look kewl...

    Painting the nuts (on the wheels that is) obviously isn't going to be an ideal solution as the paint is going to chip every time the wheels need to be removed. Genuine black steel wheelnuts are $8 each, so probably the best option? Just wondering if anyone else has painted their wheels and what they've done re the wheelnuts (genuine or an aftermarket source)

    thanks

    Buy a jet washer and just wash your wheels!

    I am with UncleHo, but if you must, then you must....

    I would be looking at something like POR15 or KBS Coatings. You could probably do your wheels with it too.

    Just paint the bloody things black! if you change a tyre, (this seems to happen with increasing regularity) then whip the little tin out when you get home and give them a touch up!
    Alternatively, just leave them silver, may provide a nice contrast...

    I didn't think POR15 was sun stable and ultimately a sort of primer.

    I believe that POR15 fades very quickly in the sun so I wouldn't use it if that is the case for something that will be in the sun a lot

    Steel wheel wheel nuts will not work on an alloy rim!!!!!!
    Alloy rim nuts will work on a steel rim
    I would leave the caps silver,no paint will stick well enough.I too have considered painting my rims,OR better still polishing them. The clearcoat is starting to peel on my rims.

    Options;
    Original, chrome= cheapest
    Black,= cost and will still scratch and need regular repaint + easy to lose.
    Go another colour for a real contrast like fluro orange (paint the outer brake caliper same colour for more WTF effect!)or yellow= still will need repaint but scratches wont be as obvious and easier to find the nuts in the dark on a muddy trail.

    Chrome or silver. Contrast the black rim, otherwise it'll look a bit odd. Just MHO.

    The LSE has dark blue alloys with the silver nuts, looks good actually.
