4wd for the wife - Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

My wife is after a new car and likes the look of the Jeep Wranglers, so I have started looking at the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited (5 door wrangler).

    I have to say on paper they definetely look the goods;

    116" Wheelbase
    Aproach Angle 37.7°
    Departure Angle 31.3°
    Seating 5
    3.8l V6, 146kW & 315Nm
    4.0:1 low range ratio
Dana 44 heavy duty solid axles front and rear
    4.10:1 diff ratio
    Front and Rear electronic lockers
    Electronic swaybar disconects
    Ramp 20.0° - Connected 638 - Disconnected 822
    2300kg towing
    2100kg kerb
    Rock rails
Transfer case, fuel tank & tranmission skid plates
    Hard top and soft top
    245/75/17 tyres - 31.5"
ABS, brake assist, TC, electronic roll mitigation, brake lock differential

Does anyone own one or know much about them. I will be reading the usual online reviews etc.

I would also look at having fiited by the dealer BF Goodrich MT KM2's, ARB front bar and ARB rear bar, winch.

I don't know a lot about them, but I drove my brothers recently. Not a bad car. I like the auto hill start braking that it had. The biggest annoyance that i had with it was the doors. They don't stay open by themselves. If you park on a slope or unlevel ground they would swing towards the slope.

If I was in the market for a new car I would have a serious look at one.

I am a fan of of the Rubicons and too would be on a short list for a new vehicle. Check out what the load capacity of them are, from a previous post I think they are not that high, if that matters to you.
I have also been told that you are money ahead by buying the sports model and putting in ARB lockers and Ring and pinion than buying the Rubicon, this way you can get the diesel model. The only downside of doing it this way is you still have the Dana 35 for the front VS the 44 for the Rubicon. I think their is also some limitations on the application of the lockers in the Rubicon eg: 4lo and up to 20km/hr.
One thing for sure thier is no shortage of aftermarket gear for them.

It will be a second car for us with the disco being used for the heavy stuff and touring so the capacity is not required.

The Jeep would be for my wife to drive to the train station etc. and for weekends up the beach and out at the dam.

Also looking at the price difference and what you do not get in the sport I dont think there is any real saving, the Rubicon is $5000 more than the sport.

As far as I know the Rubicon (Rock Trac Transfer Case) is only a part time 4wd with a locking centre when 4wd is engaged.

This is from the Jeep site:

NO WAY there is no CDL in the Rubicon! There would be no point in front and rear lockers if that were the case.

Just put a nice big handle bar across the back so you can take it to the supermarket
