I have just done the same for my Harley Davidson
AAMI $2737
Shannaons $592
QBE $617
Insure my Ride $467
I am stuffed as to the difference in prices
The insurance cover note on my RRS is about to run out so I have been looking for comprehensive insurance. My old insurance company was AAMI.
Prior to getting the vehicle I was quoted $850 by AAMI to insure it for a year. When I applied for the Cover Note with AAMI they quoted $912.
When I got the vehicle I rang around for other quotes.
Bingle - AAMI in disguise $1260
Shannons - $1204 with a high excess of $700
NRMA $1163
AAMI Cover Note quote $912
Youi $906 - no windscreen cover and high excess if someone not listed driving
Lumley Special Vehicles $900
AAMI (pre purchase quote) $850
Budget Direct (Agreed Value) $769
AAMI Online Quote $714
Budget Direct (Market Value) $660
Budget Direct will not cover anyone under 25 driving - even workshop people. If one of them crashed it I would have to claim against the car service company.
Also note the difference in the Budget Direct quote between Agreed and Market values even though the amount covered now is the same - at claim I would guarantee they would only pay at the low end of the market value range.
I went with the AAMI online quote but was surprised how much the various AAMI quotes differed and how much more expensive their company "Bingle" was.
So it pays to shop around and even to get repeated quotes from your preferred company.

My D3 is around 1100.00 with TCIS including windscreen cover, probably a bit cheaper without. Insurance through Maxxia (leasing company) was about $960 but they weren't as good at offroad coverage and no windscreen cover.

All covered for offroad and when quizzed they said that as long as the vehicle was being used within its design parameters all would be OK.
I have been through all this with the insurance companies before and you end up going around in circles with more leaks in their policy than Wikileaks - generally satisfied though.
I have been with AAMI for a long time and had two claims on them about 12 years ago and all was OK.

I recently insured my series 3 just with third party fire and theft (I figure that if someone hits me it will hurt them more than me) and when I got a quote it was $190 through NRMA which was the cheapest quote, a week and a bit later when the old policy ran out I rang back to insure it and was told quotes are only valid for 24 hours and the price would be different, they requoted exactly the same cover based on the previous quote number and it was $148. So not only does it pay to shop around, sometimes it pays to wait too.
It was interesting to note the difficulty finding comprehensive for a series 3 with a holden engine. They class it as modified and about 80% of the companies I tried would not insure it, despite explaining that it was not really a performance modification.
Not wishing to change the subject, but forget about car insurance, wait until your home and contents is due. It really pays to shop around.
Some won't even offer insurance!
Suncorp who I was happy with until recently almost tripled my policy cost in 2 years. Even though I never claimed!.
Their other subsidary AAMI was about the third of the price.
Apparently some insurance comps are facturing future claims to cover there costs.
With predicted inclement weather forecast for the future, and potential claims, they are jacking up prices now.
I live on a mountain, but must pay for all the flooding in the lowlander areas.
But I do pay my share for living in a bush fire area. A necesary evil though, look what happened to lots of people without insurance, they had to rely on public donations and welfare.
