    moving to the U.K?

The time has come where i have to seriously have to consider moving to the U.K due to the health and frailty of my wifes parents.
I am an an Australian citizen, my 2 1/2 y.o son is an aussie cit. My wife is UK born with a UK passport and an aussie passport as well. We have been married 7 years. We were married in the UK. The company i work for is a major multi-nat and is willing to transfer me there to gain 24 months experience of the UK business.
The question is 1. Am I able to do this easily as my wife is a UK cit?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    G'day Box,

Not sure what the up to the minute laws are ( Goal posts are ever shifting with this stuff! ) but I think if you have the sponsorship of a company and the promise of work you shouldn't have any problems. Your employer ought to be able to tell you what the score is though on that front.

    Cheers, Simon.

I dont think you would have dramas if your wife is a UK cit and you are married either...just give Brit emabassey a call see what they have to say

Are your parents UK citizens? If so you may be able to claim a British Passport through them in which case you won't have a problem staying there. I don't know how it works with people born '82 and before... Your son can definitely get one through his mum as he was born after '83.

I had an row with the Uk government about this. my wife is an Aussie and I am a Brit cit and she has an Aussie passport with Brit right of abode. we were married and she had been living and paying taxes in the uk for 6 years of which 3 she had been married to me.
She would have to go though the same thing as I did for coming to Aus but alot longer and alot more difficult . Fill out form and pay £500 for the form to be processed. Heath check ( at an extra personal cost ) and no claim or anything from the gov for 5 years ( not that, that would be a problem) and the whole process would take 5 years min to get the passport
We gave up and the unhelpful people at the gov departments were no help at all. It honest seems and leads to you believe if you work and are the wrong colour they make it as hard as poss . Sorry but unfortunately true

If you're not eligible for the passport then you'd be looking for the right of abode visa which allows entry and work without restriction

Edit - just as Ali posted!

You'll not be able to do this too easily anymore, mate of mine is from Bathurst, married to a brit and living here. Works for a major multi-nat engineering consultancy and has to keep his sponsorship with them whilst going through the full visa process for residency. It's been going on for over 5 years now, as a Brit I'm (personally) disgusted that it's still going on and costing him so much, seeing as how he contributes so much to the country. It's no wonder he's looking at going back home next year !

If your company's prepared to sort the visa's for you then let them do it, as otherwise I think it'll be a royal pain in the arse. Just make sure you come here on a good package though, as it's getting incredibly expensive here these days.
