Do the math on a fly over drive home, especially if you can score standby airline tickets.

Just got a quote from them - about $1300. As LandyAndy mentioned, I'm thinking about packing the family up and flying over then driving it home. Probably more expensive than just transporting it, but I would need to see the car for myself before buying it anyway, so might be better to drive it home myself, and make a bit of a holiday of it.

    That's if I buy it...

Son inlaw just brought their jeep from Perth to Tassie, Perth to melbourne was $600 and melbourne to tassie was $300. Have to watch them though, the company that did the perth to melb wanted $900 to do the melb to tassie leg. The jeep sat in perth for 10 days lost and delayed though and only turned up 1 day before the wedding (it was the wedding car)
    cheers

    Perth to Brisbane

I've done that trip 5 times now and it does not get any better. The last cheap fuel out of Perth is at the Shell Norseman. It's in town but much cheaper then the big Servo which is on the crossroads on the outskirts. From Norseman to Yatala in South Australia you are in the hands of the rip off merchants for fuel ( and anything else for that matter) There is no mobile phone coverage or radio stations for the greater part of the journey so I had a 10 stacker installed in my disco. This time of the year the Nullabor is hot and the bloody flies are in plague proportions. On one of my trips before I put on the air-con the outside temp shown on my fridge thermo was 53C so you can imagine the heat that the cooling system of your vehicle has to contend with.It has to be top notch.
It's a long drive but as the Southern Ocean is never far off the road it is scenic.
Hope I haven't put you off but in summer ,like now,it can be overbearing.Winter is a different matter and very enjoyable. I hope you like straight roads, one stretch is 147.7 k's without a curve the longest in Australia.
    John.

    My thoughts exactly.

Ranga you fool, don't - repeat do NOT - buy that car without getting it inspected by someone who knows Landies.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
