    Can you play nicely?

    Serious question.

I went for a drive last week in my D1 with a HZJ75. The 75 was lifted and running 35" Centipedes. I run 32" MTs and a lift. I also had a HZJ80 owner passengering with me. Both cars went were each other went without any issues and the owner of the 80 commented how capable the Disco was (wrt to departure angles etc) and the that the auto handled everything very easily.

We're all of the opinion that at the end of the day your choice of 4x4 comes down to personal preference. It's swings and merry-go-rounds across the board. My observation is that LR owners seem to get upset/feel need to defend themselves very easily. I'm not bothered by what owners of other 4x4s think. I know my car is good and I don't need to give a stack of reasons why I own it when questioned.

Does anyone else find they can have a decent fun day out 4wding with all sorts of 4x4s/people?

And do we really need to **** our own forum up with stupid arguments that do nothing but perpetuate the belief amongst other 4x4 owners that Rover owners are a bunch of precious *******? I'd like to think the majority of us are better educated, more inclusive people than that.

I generally play nicely right up untill they try to tell me how useless the landys going to be because its not lifted locked or running uber funky rubber and a 30000w sound sytem with a winch and kick ass aircon and how do I expect to keep up with just a piddling 2.5lTd? and how far do I expect to get with just a 75l fuel tank and a single jerry?

after neatly trouncing most of them on the open road off road and then again at the bowser apparently Its still not good enough because its pommy and its not lifted locked....

or my other favorite... the idiots who cant seem to understand that I gave up the super cold aircon the extra heavy sound insulation and the luxobarge seats with 30 cup holders and a DVD player with the electronic engine and the auto box that can do 140kph so that I can comfortabley drive with my windows missing, listen to the vehicle and when Im going slow enough the surroundings and drive it without the distractions that modern manufacturers seem to think that you must have in a car. I can also fix it on the side of the road and I dont care if it gets dusty or dirty. I can just hose it out (and often do)

Its a different vehicle its not made for fat assed americans its a utilitarian vehicle designed for people who not only KNOW how to But actually want to drive that gets me and my gear from a-b cheaply and effectively regardless of the road conditions.

    Well said^^

bolded: That's the key isn't it, ie. don't chest beat, just let the vehicle speak for itself.

I can honestly say I've never found LR drivers to be particularly defensive or 'self concious' regarding their vehicle of choice. I've been out with Landies with groups of Jeeps, Toyotas and a few miscellaneous and I think it's just a bit of light hearted rivalry.
I certainly wouldn't put LR drivers in the same catergory as stereotypical Holden/Ford drivers or Toyota/Nissan enthusiasts. In my experience LRs are much more appreciative and while perhaps outnumbered aren't suffering from an inferiority complex.
(Dare I admit it) I've been out with a Jeep club in a Jeep and the vibe was far more competitive within the ranks as well. Perhaps I've just been lucky in my experiences?

We play nice and haven't found a reason not to

I don't care who we go 4x4'ing with, fun is had by all in various terrain etc. I have been embarrased on a few occasions by LR people on the UHF carrying on about Toyota this, or Nissan that, but that doesn't happen very often.

I try and choose the people we go tripping with carefully as I hate having to listen to rubbish like that. We are all here to enjoy our OWN vehicles and learn more about the whole scene, if our chosen rig happens to be mega capable, then so much the better

I think its more the person not the brand. They all have their goods and bads: Nissan = bullet proof drive train, Toyota = good engines LR = well designed suspension etc etc

I have wheeled with different brands and had no problems...and other times just have to hold my breath. LR owners arent immune to being wanky either.

The one comment that sticks in my head came about 12 years ago when I did a DAP with the CG4x4 club (not the LR one). At the smoko break one of the instructor was sitting down with one of the students (toyota owner) and the words the instructor said was pretty much " yep, any 4x4 company that builds a 4x4 with an open rear diff is ****...that tells me all I need to know about their engineering" ....this regarding a Discovery, and there were a few there on the day...some within ear shot. Not only did I think that he was dumb for such a narrow minded statement but he was representing a club and potentionally offending future members...

I feel sorry for the cars being owned drivin by *******....

can I play nice....yes....just not on the internet

That is exactly the type of person I stay WELL away from, narrow minded and arrogant, no 'engineer' of any description there I'm afraid

My son "RedTD5"and his mates go out nearly every weekend, much to my disappointment, (someone has to do the house stuff), 1x D2, 1 xHilux and 1x Patrol. All get bogged, all pull each other out, all have a great time.
Every so often another with attitude comes along and isnt asked again.
lots learnt and all come home laughing and looking at the video footage, planning the next jolly.

That what its all about isnt it?

    cheers
