Hi All
Ean if you want to take it any further you need to talk to MVR and give them a company name and some details to help them figure out who it was etc.
Merry Christmas and hope this helps

Gday All,
I wish I didnt have to post this thread, but here goes..
Had a great day out and caught a taxi home ,well unfortuneately this was the problem, the taxi went like 20kms out of his way to get us home, now I have no problem paying extra for the people who work christmas, but there comes a limit to the christmas charity.
Anyway rang the taxi company and basically got told bad luck.
Is this Darwin or everywhere..
Merry Christmas to all..
Cheers Ean

Indian taxi driver Ean? I had a run-in with one yesterday, trying to turn right, across three lanes of traffic, from the kerb lane. There are many complaints from the public and minority caucasion cabbies about the standard of driving and lack of geographical knowlege with Brisbane cab drivers; 90% of which are Indian.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Cheers, Dale

They can learn alot from the Kiwi cabbies. I can only sing praise for them. Even the fijian indian ones.
One turned off the meter to show us the trout in the river in Christchurch as I didn't believe him when he boasted about them. yep turned the meter off and took us there to show us.
In Auckland, I caught a cab to a theme park on our last day, we had an afternoon flight, we left out baggage at the hotel for safe keeping. The cabbie asked me what time was my flight, and he was there like a personal chaffeur to collect us at the theme park gates and took us back to the hotel, loaded our baggage for us and took us to the airport. All this for a $20 fare.
They work cheap there but are fantastic. You can't hail them though you have to ring to get a cab.
Their blood is worth bottling.
I get in fire up the phone GPS show them where I want to go, how many KMs it is to get there and then ask for the odo reading.
I'll give them a couple of K's leeway and round up if they come in under.
IF they arent going the smartest way to get there I tell them to stop and get out without paying then call another cab.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
we refuse to use cabs anymore - if we are out, late at night, we rely on public transport now...its cheaper, and we have a better chance of getting home alive - not to mention drivers who don't know where they are going and overcharging. Seriously, we have been sooo close to a serious accident a couple of times. The last incident, about 8 months ago, my wife and I saw our lives flash before us as the driver pulled across oncoming vehicles, and then apologised because he had been awake for 24 hours WTF!!!! The taxi industry really needs to lift their game in this country.
If the speed of light = 299,792,458 m/s, what is the speed of dark?
Just chalk it up to experience and if it happens again, don't pay the metered fare. Negotiate the correct fare. And leave some prawn heads hidden at the taxi depot!
How do you go an extra 20k's in Darwin?
Armadillo that's fine if you live somewhere with decent public transport.

I gave up driving cabs around Melb, after 25 years part timing, but for other reasons, not the least being the traffic jams.
If you knew a better way home, - & it's hard to not sound like a cheapskate when you are with friends,- point it out to the driver.
I took a cab from East St Kilda to the city & said go up Kingsway & he went up Chapel St ( a congested & indirect way) At the first road I gave plenty of notice & said left up here ( even pointing) he kept going straight. I did this again at High St & he kept going, so I said " if you expect to get paid, you better get on to Kingsway so go next left. He did.
Unfortunately, in Melbourne, nowadays, this behaviour is as common as littering. The authorities are way too busy dealing with bigger issues, like assaults, substitute drivers (prevalent here now) and downright theft from drunk passengers. The drivers know this & play it for all it's worth.
Personally, I would have let him go any way he wanted, then paid him 20% more than what it would have been & if he arks up, say, so you call the cops & let them sort it out or rack off, i'm not paying for you to learn your job. Technically this is illegal, as you should pay the metered fare then complain in writing to the RTA, however, what I've posted above works both ways & I am sure there is a very busy shredder at work there.
