    QLD and flooding

I am traveling at the start of jan to rubyvale with the family in a 2wd van. I have just found out I may not actually be able to get into rubyvale because of flooding, and if I get in, I may not be able to get out!!

I am now coming up with an emergency plan to go somewhere else (coming from melbourne)

I was wondering if anyone here knows about the possibility of flooding and access and perhaps a good alternative place to go with kids.

    Regards, and happy holidays,

Currently Qld is flooding fom north to south and east to west.

Check the RACQ website for road closures and warnings.

you're trying for rubyvale? bit hit and miss but you wont get stuck there for long unless we really cop a deluge

the bigger problem will be getting past emerald, afaik the rockhampton road is cut, the springsure road might go that way and god alone knows what the road north will do

thanks, I just had a look at the RACQ site by punching in melbourne to rubyvale, and emerald is listed as 'problem' so I think I can assume that if the rain does not stop we cannot get through.

I think an alternate plan is going to be necessary at this stage.

What were you planning on doing in Rubyvale?

As even if you do get through it is going to be very wet and not very relaxing.

hmmm depending which way you try to come up you might not have much success either, northern NSW rivers are looking very risky at the moment and we appear to have heaps more rainy days to come with rain fall predictions in some areas of up to 300mm over the next 3-4 days. goto BOM website and look at all the Qld forecasts, most arent very promising. sorry to rain on your parade.

well after calling inlaws in QLD and calling the hotels it looks like we cant really get access to the area. I will not be taking a 4x4, not that this matters much as I would not drive my kids in anything like floodwater anyway.

So thankyou all for the advice. I am now planning a last minute trip from melb to ceduna or fowlers bay as I really want to see all along there and the kids should like the beaches.

Any paces that are must see along the SA coast?
