Personally I would put it on the outside Jock as per the series 3.
Currently fitting a sub tank in the Defender (another 55L) and I finally cut the hole in the side today
Now I need your ideas on what looks better and how to make it look better
So far I would prefer to put the mount on the inside, rivet it and put a U shaped rubber around the edge of the panel. This will cover up the yucky edge and act as a dust seal
N.B the mount originally is designed to go on the outside; it's from a Series III
Does anyone have any other ideas?
I'll post a thread in the projects section when it's all finished, I'm hoping to have about 190L in tanks without fitting a Long Ranger. Then when I fit a Long Ranger it'll be about 240L in totalNo jerry cans for me

Jock, that looks better on the outside, like Pete says. When you've finished, get some more tanks and come down and do mine will you???I would like to see the bracket galvanised though

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Somethink like sikaflex and glue it to the inside? Seal it around the cut edge and it should look fine.
One more vote for outside.
It looks the biz and is in keeping with tradition.
And (no small matter) it will be heaps easier too.
Did this
on the outside, and lose the sticker.
If you fit it to the outside then when you fit an original lock, it will look better. With the frame on the inside the lock will look tacked on.
outside, no contest![]()
Thanks for all the replies
I bought myself a Defender locking fuel cap and filler so the lock isn't to much of an issue
I'll have a play and post up the photos, thanks
