    Sea container homes?

Has anyone here got one, or know anything about them?

Seems a good use of resources, and simple, strong and easy to manage.

...just thinking of a quick, different and simple solution to building...which we previously had a very bad experience with

there was an article about a company in Melbourne [?] a few years back making pre fab houses using containers. they included a kitchen bathroom and i think a pitched roof that could be installed on site. I dont know if they are still being done but i was considering the idea for a vacant block of land

The fibreglass wall ones with insulation, not the Reefer but the Port Hole ones would be good, 4 x 40' stacked 2 high with a pitch roof with doors between and stairs, windows would be great, wonder what the brainiacs in council would think, Regards Frank.

Very versatile and cheaper form of accommodation. There is a station out of Broome WA had a lot of trouble getting builders etc to construct a house and being in the cyclone region they simply bought 4 x 40ft containers, joined them together, cut doorways windows etc lined them and fitted them out...instant 2 storey house nice and strong.
I have a 20ft one that has a 3 bay garage built around it in the back yard and I use it for a cyclone shelter (live in the affected area) in the bad times, rest of the time it's a good secure storage place and being inside a large garage no one is the wiser.

Lots of them been converted for extra "accommodation" in various WA prisons once fitted out with smaller doors and windows.

We can get second hand ones up here for around $3,000 - $4,000 and a lot of people use them for sheds and shelters when required. Good sturdy shells that can be added to easily and made to look OK with lining inside, aircons and/or cladding outside. Very handy things.

I might add that I do actually live in a proper house full time

Ive used plenty of the very basic 2 unit ones that are done for emergancy accomodation (2 sleeping/entertainment rooms + common kitchen or 4 rooms with a shared ensuite)

the "long" aspect of the rooms in the better setups can take a bit of getting used to but they're pretty good.
