Thread: Photos found of hard drive: Old logging operation and trucks. PIC HEAVY

I started work in the logging industry in 1975 and well remember that time with the old Macks etc. I reckon I seen the last of the single rider logs leave our local forest in that era, the biggest I remember was split with explosives so it would fit on the truck, 3 loads for the first section of the tree. This was on the nw of tassie. I think one of the names on the truck was Groves, my second employer was a Groves but they were into mining/earth moving.

See if you can find a timber industry museum or even the state museum or state library down there - they would like those pics I reckon and even better with a story as to how they came to be "saved".

Tasmanian greenies I`m sure would like a copy Some mighty big logs being logged in some of those photo`s. Photo`s seem to cover a long time span. From what looks to be the sixties to near present.

Yeah Right! They'll all be foetal sucking their thumbs in a corner if they see them!

Pics of cable logging are interesting, pretty much one of the most dangerous jobs still around in oz.... Had a mate log truck driving for a few years, very dangerous as well (as are most logging industry jobs), I am happy he has moved on....

As Zuno55 noted logging is a dangerous business. My natural father was killed in a logging accident when I was 2. My adoptive father was also a logger ( go figure?) and luckily in 40 years of logging only sufferd relative light injuries. Had a few very close calls though.
