Got stuck in the floods yesterday

Well I was in 1974 as a wee fella, but I haven't seen anything like yesterday.
Not the best day to go driving, but it was a necessary evil.

Went to the Wivenhoe and Somerset and then to Esk.....but spent the night in the Disco, with the Mrs at a boghole called Harlin, outside Kilcoy.

Every creek, gully, crack, cow track and slope on every property were like raging torrents. In quicktime, rivers 2 ft under bridges were soon 8 ft over.

Couldn't get anywhere on the way back for flooded roads and bridges. Tried Brisbane Valley Way, D'Aguilar, Somerset-Wivenhoe, over the range to Blackbutt, and a few others.
Gave up about 4pm and were stuck in Harlin, watching the river take the bridge.
Hospitality of the pub and servo proprietor was great, putting people up, sorting children and getting them all breakky this morning.

Squeezed home via D'Aguilar, onto Esk - Kilcoy, past Somerset and over Mt Glorious. Pretty ugly, very slow, a touch hairy with a few landslides and couple of smaller causeways to go through, but 3 and a bit hours we got home.

There's still people stuck there apparently.

    Tips for young punters.
    1. Don't go anywhere unless you have to
    2. Be prepared
    3. Don't cross flooded roads and causeways
    4. Disco's are great for getting out of stuff like that - but crap for sleeping in.

A couple of v. ordinary pics from the phone.

I just got off the phone with a friend living in northern Queensland, which is bearing the full brunt of the floods.
He said that since early this morning the flood has been nearly waist high and rain is still falling.
The temperature is soaring and the north wind is increasing to near gale force.
His wife has done nothing for hours but look through the kitchen window, and just stare.
He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.
