2011 flood pics

Floods have made the BBC TV news here. Seem to have latched on to it now has arrived in Brisbane. Perhaps being a larger city they feel more comfortable there.

Their geography knowledge though could use some revision as they advised Brisbane was Australias most 'westerly' city.

Trust the flood will not be as bad as the graphic they threw up on the screen. This had flood waters drawn in a rectangular shape reaching from in the north Redcliffe, south to the Gold Coast and west to the Brisbane Forest Park / State forest. All within the zone we were advised was going 8 metres under!

We are about a kilometer away, but the creek that runs through our block joins another creek "Terrors Creek" before passing through the town.

The flood level up until 10am today 13/1/11 has not reached the height of the 1974 one in Brisbane or Ipswich, how are your folks getting on??,Toowoomba recieved 10 iches in a little over an hour that is what caused the tidal surge through the city with the footage of a vehicle being washed past REPCO,that was a fatal,I have a report of the water rushing down the range road level with the concrete barriers,towns like Withcot,Grantham copped the brunt and down into the Lockyer Valley,they're still conducting search and rescue/recovery,Brisbane river is in full flood with a lot of boats pontoons etc. washed downstream,water is well into Edward St and Albert St,and to all the newer buildings in and around Creek & Eagle Sts. power has been cut to most of the inner city and rail and bus services severely cut,latest update water reached 4.46,(5.45m 1974) water level expected to stay hight for 2-3 days

We are drying out,dogs a tad damp,yard a bog,but all OK, we have dog friends in the Lockyer valley areas (kennels) and haven't heard from a few of them,Caboolture be came a swamp and the only way out at one stage was by air straight up,Caboolture river not a lot under the road bridge at Bribie turnoff. have a look in general chat at some of the pics of Caboolture area put up by "Disco_Balls" probably page 2 or 3 by now.

Jeep Club building at Rocklea would be swimming by now.

1sf video not working..

I'm in toowoomba... and my parents dry cleaners got pretty F'd up on Monday... unfortunately we lost our van and Mum's Audi A4 went under as well...

Here's the van... it ended up about 600m away from where it was parked

(I believe this photo has been seen a fair bit on the news haha, a mate of mine texted me and said it made a cover in Auckland, and other mates have said they saw it on the news in London... crazy)

Here's the audi next to the shop, the water had gone down by this point, at the worst it was over the bonnet and filled up inside to the steeringwheel (as the electrics freaked out and let the passenger window down and filled the car)

Have been cleaning the shop out flat out for the past few days as my old man has been stuck in Warwick. Had so many people come in off the street and offer assistance, had a bloke turn up in his ute with brooms and shovels and heaps of gear ready to help out. Glad to see there are so many good people out there.

Will post up more photos from inside the shop soon.

It's only cars at least you guys are safe (and no Land Rovers were harmed in the making of this movie) that is the main thing in these freaky scary moments.
The most important thing to tell the parents is if they had bought a diesel defender and tied it to something that couldn't float away they would still have a car that would go!!
I hope that the business is fully covered and the insurance company have a sense of humour.
I guess it just must turn your life upside down overnight!

Thanks mate... trying to argue with the insurance company that the place was next to a storm water drain and not a creek. It is called "east creek" but it is actually a man made thing where our business is located, so it can be classified as storm water then and we are covered. Cars are covered fine. Audi will be replaced with a Range Rover Vogue, the old girl says she never liked the audi, too small for her (coming out of a D1 that we bought from new haha) Luckily though I had my D2 at home and Dad was stuck with his D3 in warwick, would have been quite depressing to lose those two!

This is a good one. Good indication of how much water was traveling down the range. For those who don't know this is in 100 km/hr zone at the bottom of the range just before Withcott.

All this flooding kinda makes you think about the 14th century chinese maps of the world which show Australia with a large inland sea and the east coast as a series of islands. Maybe they just came here during a time of heavy flooding.
