no Digger, it is YOUR flag and YOU love it.
It is very obvious from the posts to this thread that you cannot make that statement on everyone's behalf. A number of us on this forum would like to see a change or a variation, and I guess if that %ge was reflected across the nation there is a very strong case for a referendum for a new or revised flag.

On your 3 assumptions:All my grandparents were born in this country and AFAIK all their parents were also born here, both grandfathers were in uniform during the great wars, my paternal grandfather having been at The Somme in WWI.

I want a flag that represents ths great country and one that is unique and distinctive from other flags of the world. Not a flag that is a defaced blue ensign like so many other defaced blue ensigns throughout the World with the Union Flag of subjugation obliterating 1/4 of the design.
In fact I would even be happy to leave the flag like it is, if they merely removed the Union Flag from the canton, leaving a blue flag with the Southern Cross in the fly and the Commonwealth Star (Australia Star) in the hoist. They could even centre and enlarge the Commonwealth Star.
BTW: I am even a constitutional monarchist, not an Australian republican.

What nonsense!
Like LAL, my parents, all my grandparents and I think all my GGPs were born in Australia.
And also like LAL, my paternal grandfather fought in both WWI and WWII.
In fact I can't remember any one of the admittedly tiny of number of people with whom I have ever discussed the flag fitting your description.
1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.
Interesting to note that Christmas Island, an autonomous territory of Australia, and Norfolk Island, an external Territory of Australia, both have their own distinctive Flags. [ bearing no resemblence to the Aust. one. ]Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
The (State) of the Northern Territory has it's own, distinctive, unique flag that is not a defaced Blue Ensign!
Even the Queen, when she travels in Australia doesn't fly the Union Flag or even her Royal Standard from the UK, but has her own personal flag as Elizabeth I Queen of Australia.

I wonder if this would be so much of an interest if it wasnt for the media push every year.
If a change comes from a majority vote then so be it but be warned the flag will then be open to a redesign every time there is a shift in public opinion.
Aus used to have an advertising slogan: 'Australia where the bloody hell are you' ... new flag = 'Australia who the bloody hell are we'
I will have to laugh if we end up with a green and yellow flag sporting a cricket bat, digeridoo and a kangaroo. Good luck making a new flag everyone will like.
