Have a standard 1.5m roof rack on my defender. Just wondering has anyone any experience having a 16' canadian style canoe on the racks? I imagine there'd be some overhang. Would be around 30-40kgs so weight no problem
Should do.

Yeah it will no problems. Our 2 I generally have as far forward as possible and tie down to the bull bar as well.

What are you worried about??
I've done a trip with 2x 15 foot seakayaks on the roof of a suzi jimny
Tie them down well over the top, and then I also normally also tie down to bullbar / towbar as well. Also as seen in the pics, the canoe will be more secure and easier to tie down if you put it on upside down.

The important thing is to tie down the bow and the stern.
I've safely carried a 21 ft double sea kayak that way on a Camry.
People carry 25 ft double kayaks on ordinary sedans with roughly the same roof bar spacing as yours.

I have carried 2 tandem kayaks on the roof for a ~500 km round trip, and a single tandem kayak for a ~1200 km round trip (as well as shorter trips). Both trips included plenty of 4x4ing.
