HID or LED

I am in the same boat - deciding between HIDs or LEDs. Does anyone have pics of LED light bars mounted on a bullbar? That would be my preferred mounting point - despite a roof mount probably offering better visibility.

Any pics of the light bars in action at night?

LED ones (the best ones I've seen easily available here are from EDI-T - see bottom opf this page Tactical Torches
with related link). Evan runs that join and he's avery helpful fella.

These LED lights have good spot but also a very good spill beam which is what you want. Its not the Kanagaroo 2kms up the road you need to worry about, it's the one hiding in the fresh pick alongside the road thats about to jump in front of you.

The otehr BIG advanathe opf LED lights is the lwo currnt dr This would be perfct solution for vehciles with low powered alternators or even, gasp, generators iek series landies.

ref the HID's getting hot, the bulbs wont get any hotter than a halogen, but the issue is the ballast pack...that is untouchable...make sure you mount it with a metal fixing to bodywork.I used a cable tie initially...it melted.

Perhaps it varies between brands? Mine are stuck on vertically with 3M double sided tape to the back of my bulbar and have never had a problem. Will have to check them out ..

The Rigid Led light bars look fantastic, but for me, the price to performance ratio is still too high at present. Hella 4000's with Philips HID for $450 vs $1000 plus.....

I got an email response from Barry at EDI-T, quick response and the prices look good. Would prefer a 40 LED flood & Spot will need to investigate further

I wonder how these would go with the spotlight rules: i.e. that additional driving lights must be mounted in pairs, and number of lights (do they consider each led (bulb) a "light").

They are absolutely brilliant. I got them from a friend who is considering bring more in. He is a bit over 1/2 price from Opposite Lock for an identical light.

These throw out 4,200 lumens EACH.
