A few weeks back we had a pretty bad hailstorm here. I got up on the roof of the garage to stop some leaks but I went through the fibro breaking 2 sheets. AAMI won't cover the damage as it was caused by foot traffic. I should have let the rain do damage to the garage contents and I could have claimed that.

I know two sheets doesn't sound much but it requires replacement of 9 sheets as this fibro profile is no longer available - add to that the cost of asbestos sheet disposal. I'll probably end up having the whole garage resheeted with corrugated steel.
The ad was in the Ipswich Queensland Times this week advising their customers that their polices had full flood cover.Where to now..God only knows.

Leading national over 50s insurance company Apia is reassuring existing policyholders that automatic flood cover is included as a standard feature on all Apia home and contents insurance policies.

Apia Executive Manager Craig Dingle said Apia provided peace of mind for customers by covering flood damage to insured buildings and contents caused by river or creek flooding, flash flooding, rainwater run-off and storm water.

“Our priority at the moment is to meet the immediate needs of our customers who have been affected by the current flooding across much of Queensland and parts of Victoria and Northern New South Wales,” said Executive Manager Apia, Craig Dingle.

“If you’re an Apia customer and have experienced damage from the floods and rain, please contact our 24 hour telephone line, 13 50 50 for assistance from an Apia team member and to lodge a claim,” Mr Dingle said.

“We are experiencing a higher than usual volume of calls as a result of this event, so we would ask customers to please be patient when contacting us for assistance.”

Is that the same as people who don't make a claim subsidising those who do? That is how insurance works.

Good point, I think what I was suggesting is that perhaps a no frills policy at a budget price would not give the coverage of the top shelf one, and many people, for whatever reason ,would not read the fine print.I think anyone with a policy would claim if they thought they were covered, and I know a lot of policy holders are being told " sorry, you are not covered",AAMI have been reported as one of these, If Suncorp are indeed their parent company, and have indeed come out to say they will cover all claims, evan the "iffy " ones, where does that leave AAMI? I understand I may be talking thru my hat ,and could be off on the wrong track, but this insurance business seems like a minefield. Bob.

most insurance agencies offer under writer policies.

so bob joes local insurance hicks are basically selling on a bigger companies insurance policy.

    as I understand it.

if the little company wont process the claim because its not covered but the larger company that sold the smaller company the policy decides they are going to pay out on it then the person who bought their policy from bob joe still gets a payout and bob joe is basically out of the loop and does what hes told to do.

at the end of the day if suncorp is underwritining AAMI policies then AAMI pays out as instructed OR they risk loosing the underwriter.
