Just a note that a 90 day rego scheme is being introduced in Vic.
I think you have to be registered to view link.

Cool!!
Hang on... Is this restricted to cars that are part of a club still, or any car that doesn't get driven often?
Possibly the same as their unregistered veh permit witch is more like temp rego but for 3 months have used that in the past for moving veh from one state to another , do you need a roadworthy cert for the 3 month one?
I believe this scheme is to replace the current concessional registration scheme. Perhaps a Victorian Aulrovian who is a member of an accepted club can explain.
I have been told that the entry in the log book must be started before setting out on the journey, and completed at the completion of the journey or the end of the day whichever happens first. Failure to start the log book entry before travelling means the vehicle is unregistered, and penalties apply. The unregistered vehicle may not be driven and must be recovered by towing.

That makes sense.
Here I was, hoping that it might be a general 90 day permit to use my old Merc whenever I wanted throught the course of any given year without being affiliated with a car club.
Still a much more flexible system than the previous one.
Anyway, I'd better focus on getting the car up to speed for a RWC and then look at getting some club rego for it.
