Getting ready to Join the Land Rover team

    Hi All,

I'm excited to say that I'm hoping to join your ranks soon and after that become an active member here.

Just looking for advice on the vehicle I'm considering buying:

    98 Disco 2
    V8
    110,000km
a few extra bits (extra wheels, roof rack ...)
    Full service history
    $5000 from a family friend.

From my research I think it's a good deal but I'm keen for another opinion.

I'm a fairly mechanical kind of guy. Have kept my old Lada going for the last 6 years but an increasing family is pushing me towards something larger, safer and more reliable.

I'm also assuming that I'll convert it to gas straight away. I think it'll pay itself off in about 18 months.

    Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum that is a bloody good price for a low k disco! Does it include the engine and gearbox

There are 2 types of gas system on the market:
Chepo $1800-$2500, is like a carby(called a mixer) between air filter and intake, this can happen if not tuned correctly or has a leak suffer from backfiring which will either pop open the air filter or in more extreme cases destroy it entirely, a solution is to have an expansion type sock between mixer and air filter to disapate the blast strength. It also has about 10-20% less power than petrol depending on tuning.
Injection $3800-$4500ish They put lpg gas(some of the newer do straight liquid injection) injectors into each cylinder and it is controled by a comp. just like your cars petrol. No backfiring ever and there is little or no smell of gas if it is all sealed correctly. It also has the same power as petrol and uses less gas/100k's.
Either way after you've converted try to only use premuim petrol as it is closer to lpg octane rating and does not go off as fast. The petrol will sit in the tank for at least a month from past experience.

    Thanks for the replies.

Sorry I made a typo about the year. It's 99 not 98. Not sure what I was thinking.

Yes it does have engine and gearbox (manual)!

If I do get it, I'm planning to spend the money and get a good gas conversion rather than a cheapie. From what I've read, they go well with the injection on the V8.
