Mate, if you lodge your question in the section pertaining to your model LandRover you have a better chance of getting a reply from likeminded individuals. Look in the "Pinnacles" and then post your question in the correct section!!Cheers mate!!

Hi, I have opportunity to buy a 1994 Land Rover TDI diesel. Has done 190K on the clock, and he is asking $5500. Inside and general body looks OK.
Can anyone pls advise as to what I need to look for in terms of engine etc. My plan would be to use everyday for general town travel, and then use on occasional weekends for bush and beach going. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Cheers

There is someone on this forum who doesn't like you asking questions on multiple threads so I will just say here a couple of things to look for:
1. Service history
2. Service history.
3. Did I mention service history?
4. Failing a service history get a competent land rover diesel mechanic to look over the vehicle.
There are many things that need doing around 200K km and it would help to know if any of them have been done.
Sorry posted twice bad connection

The only problem i have with "service history" is i can take my LR to a mechanic and tell him to do the oils and tune it up and he will stamp the log book.
There could be preventative maintenance required ie timing/belts chains etc and as the owner i can say how much $$$, right then i will get that done in a week or two i could say. Then sell the car.
Sure if there are receipts for services detailing parts replacement this is a good source of information.
But i wouldnt rely on it solely.
A good road test will reveal most faults if you have time and the owner is willing 50km test dive will show up most noises, leaks, gearbox, diff and wheel alignment problems.
Get the NRMA to look at it?
If its only a $5k car most people can afford to take a chance.
Hi
thanks for the comments and your suggestions - the 50km run in particular will be good to do. Apologies for putting this query in the wrong forum. Best I close this thread and open it up there. Cheers
Its in the general section, where one can assume general questions generally about Landy's can be posted.
Generally I would have thought this to be the right section but heck. I won't generalize.![]()
