    Very rusty A/C,what to do

Bit off topic, have a large A/C unit that is very rusty,we can't cut out all the rusty panels ,or other rusty parts of the unit..Replacing the entire unit is also not an option.
I am thinking covering all the rusty bits with fisholine, but using the odourless type,as i don't want the fishy smell to get into the building. Most of the rusty parts are in the fan chamber, that is the part of the unit that has the fan in it that blows the cold air into the building.

Anyone got any other ideas?,or anything else that will slow the rust down?

None of the rusty parts are on the external of the unit,so are not in the weather.

    Thanks in advance

Use penetrol! Its top stuff. As much as possible bristle brush the chunky rust off, then coat in penetrol. Lanoline is less stinky than fisholine and works well, but still has a slight scent.

Is penetrol very watery so it will penetrate the existing rust,& does it dry and/or stay tacky. Is it OK if it gets damp at times.Would it be better than odourless fisholine?

The rustbuster appears to be for more lighter rust & rust stains, where i need something a bit more "heavy duty",that is for badly rusted areas.

There are also the Tectyl range of products, but they are thicker & more suited to protecting areas that have not got much rust on them, such as a vehicle's chassis, not an area that already is badly rusted.

Penetrol is watery, it acts as a wetting agent when mixed with paint too. It will neutralise rusting and prevent further rusting. Once applied it is quite permament, impervious to water, dries hard/not sticky at all. After its dry can be overcoated with paint and other chemicals too. A google search using the name will have more info on it.

My Grandfather swore by molasses for rust treatment of farm equipment, I think he got it from a sugar mill. He said to soak the article in it for a few days, no more rust! have not done it myself, but sometimes the oldtimers remedies work. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
