    Thank you all very much for your replies. I guess I did do the dummy spit too easily, and the fact is this is a great forum, and I would like to continue to be a part of it.

    The hassle was over the best way to charge batteries. My experience has been with stand-alone solar power systems not automotive, but the principles are the same. With solar power, we aim to maximise the time the appliances will run before the batteries are discharged (cloudy days etc) and to maximise the life of the batteries. Much the same applies to vehicle 'house' batteries.
