Its not an LG is it ?, time for a new circuit board or three .

No its about an 8 or 9 yr old NEC....back when Plasma's were really expensive . It had one problem about 5 yrs ago.....fixed under warranty......been good till now.

How good are you with a soldering iron? Probably a capacitor has dried out or leaked, or a poor solder joint has failed.

You can tell mostly with capacitors by, 'popped' - domed tops or fluid leaks from bottom.

Pull the tv apart, check the capacitors. find their IDs - written on side. Order replacements, when the new ones arrive, desolder/remove the old ones and replace with new ones. Capacitors need to go in right way round, so take lots of pics.

Cost to do it yourself, about $50.

If you take it to a repair shop they'll probably identify which circuit board has the bad components on it and order you a new one, maybe a couple of hundred dollars for the board and probably another couple of hundred for the half hour to take it apart and put it back together.

Or you can work out which board is faulty - power supply for screen - find the part number and contact the manfacturer yourself - cost about $200.

Just get a new one. They are so much cheaper than when you first bought yours 9 years ago. A 42 inch plasma can be got for around $600 these days.

Thanks for that info......I tried to fix my son's toy star wars gun thingy the other day and completely stuffed it......best I don't go near anything electrical . Might have to go the repair shop route and at least get a quote before forking out for a new one,

Repair shops usually want a non-refundable deposit for a quote, so be careful, mate!!

Buy a new one, they reckon they would only have a 10yr life span anyway. Spend the dollars on an LED or LCD model. They are cheap these days, well cheap compared to what you would have paid for that one.

My Hitachi started refusing to come on late last year.
Looked on the internet and they suggested it was a board that cost $600.

Called a tech and asked if he wanted it , a perfect Hitachi and he refused.
I went and bought a new Sony LCD 100Hz for about $1670. Now you can get a Sony Bravia 3D 200Hz LCD for around $1600.
This time I bought double the warranty forgetting that I could have double the warranty If I bought with VISA Platinum.( something to remember)
I am really happy with mine but the new models are even better with direct internet access.
