    WATERPROOFING CANVAS

I have an early model offroad cub camper and the canvas top has lost a lot of its waterproofing. Has anyone applied waterproofing solutions to this type of canvas. If so do you roll it on, brush it on or can you apply through a pressure spray like a garden spray unit? Jim

    colour and proof canvas

If the colour is faded you can get Sundye from Kraftcolour in Thomastown for about $21 per litre and brush it on. Check their webpage for a colour chart. Leather places sell Joseph Liddye Drycote canvas waterproofing. It comes in a thin water consistent solution for light canvas or a heavy paste type for heavier canvas. Spray or brush but brushing is better. Easy to apply and works well. It will lengthen the life of old canvas as long as the fibres are still strong.

If you warm up the paste/ heavy solution it penetrates better. Not necessary North of NSW.

Bradmill also make a product called Duradux (IIRC) that is very good, although it's in a solvent base so you will need to give it a good airing after application.
It will slightly colour the canvas but is very good at reproofing.

i dropped into a local canvas business yesterday and he confirmed the canvas on my RTT is bradmill and recommended using there product. he also ondicated the canvas in in good condition

not the easiest stuff to buy over the shelf though

i tracked down down a company in brisbane that is a wholesaler but was happy to do an over the counter sale for me

the product is now called Brella Proof

    5L $37.80

if you ring Bramill's (one of the largest australian canvas manufacturers) on 1800 337 741 they will put you onto a local supplier

Is there anything out there that also improves the strength of old fibres?

My canvas has completely dried out and seems very fragile.
