    Boat trailer "Powerwinch"

As per my earlier post of "Look what I brought home", I have an new (to me) boat. Took it for a spin on the weekend, and launching was no problem. When I went to pull it out of the water, the winch would not work. Brand: Powerwinch 912, 12V wired temporarily to the battery. When flicking the switch, it would click, but would not retract the wire. The emergency handle was not in the boat, so ended up using a pair of pliers. My question is, what should I look for to fix the problem? Not sure if there is a solonoid with this winch. The instruction and spare parts online catalogue does not show any. I know nothing about them, so don't know what to look for. I would appreciate some information before I pull it apart to have a look.
    Thanks,
    Ken

clean all your terminals for a start, maybe stuck solinoid/ poor contacts, strip and check brushes. I never winched my boat on the trailer, always drove it on, much easier and electric winches seem so slow
    cheers

Thanks for that, I too drove it on the trailer, but because it freewheeled off the trailer, had 7m of cable hanging down. The problem came when it was time to tighten the boat up onto the front roller, and drive up the ramp. Needed assistance to connect the safety chain, and then drive it up. Then came the time consuming task of winding the cable onto the drum, and pulling the boat 300mm up to the roller using pliers.

    Again thanks,
    Ken

Mine just rotted at all the wireing points, they are junk. I now use a hand winch again, good exersise, and threw the rubbish in the bin. Lesson learnt.
