Flashed by a Safety Camera last night while under speed limit

If I'm towing a heavy load, am I to presume that I must approach all traffic lights at 20kph to avoid a potential lock up and/or not trigger a potential safety or red light camera if the lights turns whilst I am traversing the intersection. Might have to try this in peak hour. I can guarantee I'd get pulled over.

Report the camera as faulty!

According to the RTA website, safety cameras operate in both directions.
I knew they did on single lane road (2 lanes all up) but I didn't realise they did both ways on 3 lane roads (covering 6 lanes).

Maybe that explains it :confused:.

If they are like the units in SA this is how they work...

There are 2 sets of sensors on the 'other' side of the white line spaced a set distance.

If you are onto the sensor as the lights change you are "in the clear"
If you stop and only trip the 1st one you are "in the clear"

If the lights are red as you trip the 1st (and then 2nd) sensors you're getting a fine!

If you speed through - red or not - you're gone :cool:

In SA there was the big "un-safe" rear end collision argument...
Its proven not to be the case...
The only thing thats happened is no-one "boots it" through an orange anymore...

Our safety cameras in the ACT are usually redlight and speed depending where they are.

However, ours do flash from time to time when there is nothing in the intersection - it is some sort of 'validation' process in the camera system. Ours look like yours in NSW so I suspect they are the same - if so you may have just observed a vaildation flash.

I had a similar thing happen to me one day in Melb and I was not speeding but other cars were travelling through at same time, the camera flashed multiple times so it was hard to know what was happening. To protect myself I rang vicroads who told me to speak with compliance victoria, when I spoke to them they put a "note" on their system for the time, date and my details, I heard nothing more.

Ditto.

This thing you call a safety camera. What is it? Never seen one in Victoria. In Victoria we only have revenue raising cameras. They are all put in very safe places where there is little likely hood of a crash, so drivers tend to do 5 or 6 kays over then get pinged.
