Flashed by a Safety Camera last night while under speed limit

I was heading home last night along the 70kph zone of the Hume Hwy at Warwick Farm / Liverpool & somehow managed to trigger the safety camera at the Hume Hwy / Bigge St intersection. I assume it was for me as I was the only one going through the intersection at the time.

The thing is, I know it's there & was sitting on an idicated 67-68kph as I went through.
I run slightly larger tyres than standard but my speedo is spot on at freeway speeds. I haven't really checked it in the last few years so I hope my speedo isn't out now.

I have heard of the Police getting the cameras to flash all cars in the case of a recent crime (to track offenders) but it didn't flash the cars 50m or so ahead & behind me.

I guess I'll have to wait & see what comes through in the mail .

is it worth booking the car in and getting the speedo checked? there is a place in Revesby that does it I had my disco go through.

I don't know whether our gearing is immensely different as I have a disco and you have a rangie both fueled differently however my speedo is correct with 245/75 tyres on so you running 235/85 I would say your speedo is possibly out.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Wasn't for a red light? Safety cameras do both speed and lights.

When I first fitted the tyres, I checked the speedo with the GPS. I'll check it at a few speeds on the weekend & see how close it still is.

With standard tyres, the speedo reads 10% over at 100kph (shows 110kph when the GPS shows 100kph). With the 7.50/16s on, it was dead accurate at 110kph.

Was it a manned camera ?

Manned Cameras in Vic have/had a manual option which caught out a guy not wearing his seatbelt, funny thing was he drove by the site again twice to see if it flashed him again (And it did).

I read a similar story on a forum where the person flashed was in an English roadster with lap belts only and also got flashed.

If it was an auto fixed site then id be checking your speedo.

    Cheers,

Definitely not a red light trigger.

I'll ride home that way this arvo & double check that it's still a 70kph zone - it always has been though.

    No, it's a fixed camera.

It was originally a red light camera but most of those in my area have now been converted to safety cameras (red light & speed).

Make a "note" of it in your diary, that you got flashed and you were sure you were only doing 70. Then you can refer back to it if you get a ticket and want to take it to court.

We had a guy here in Adelaide yesterday who challenged his camera fine, and won because the magistrate believed his story more than the police's.

All existing red light cameras are being converted to "not-so safety" cameras.
