Yes they were genuine parts the land rover pump is about $25 more than an after market one.
I will always use OEM parts unless i am aware that an after market part is better or equal too OEM, or im broke.
If i call a workshop or parts supplier and they are friendly and offer good advice i am more inclined to use them if i need too.

There is no need to get personal and tell people to move to another country because the parts are cheaper there.

Actually a number of importers also import genuine parts and smash LRA prices, then you have the OE manufacturers parts in their box, then the third tier manufacturers, etc.

I know of a number of Land Rover dealers that bought a lot of gear from the private importers rather than LRA due to their wholesale pricing policy.

Not only prices - dealers can often get parts quicker not through LRA!

So lr90 you believe it's "fair" for LR aus to charge a multiple of what they charge in the uk for common parts like the water pump, power steering box etc. Now we could easily understand the cost of storing a part that had very little demand ,or was rare and the mark up but to try and sell an expensive part (but common) at more than double the u.k retail incuding VAT is pure greed.
I speak to my mech he has a look at the local stores price but tells me if I can get it cheaper to let him know, he still gets the work but does not have the hassel of having to phone around, arange delivery, store the part and pay the supplier. So in that way he actually has more time to work and has more $$ in the bank as they are not sitting around the workshop held up in parts for cars to be fitted. I use local suppliers if their prices are reasonable but as for some of the others, welcome to the electronic age
When it takes longer for me to get a delivery from Qld to NSW than from the U.S or U.k,by days or even a week+, then you can see who really wants your business.

One question i have is ,would anyone on here call a local workshop for a little freindly advice ,What pays the mechanic to sit there waiting for your call TO HELP YOU .
What happens when everyone buys from the US and GB and your local workshop isnt there or doesnt have the time for you. I think partity in pricing will be the last of your concerns when you aint capabable of fixing your own rig.
If you like the pricing in these countries so much MOVE there.

The workshop I use is more than happy for me to source the parts that they fit for me. That way they don't have to waste time trying to get hold of them.

Your were qouted the geniune price for a geniune part whats wrong with that? why are you so supprised . pay the price you want to pay but dont carry on and call it gouging, for a premium product you pay a premium. Of course aftermarket is cheaper thats the point of aftermarket parts most times aftermarkets are made by the geniune manafacturer like lucas, elring, corteco, hella anyway so why would you pay more for it to come in a lr box.
Maybe i was a bit harsh telling people to move but i get so angry coz cars are supposed to be fun and i have loved lr all my life i hate places like this filled up with all negative comments and whinging about pricing and things going wrong , my advice get in your car and drive it explore our great country and shop around for your parts end of story!

where:
OCF: Overall Chill Factor
TocL: Tare of chosen Landy
$: price of chosen Landy
(bnt:p) bent'n'twisted to pristine panel ratio


Aussie retailers are slowly catching up with the fact that they can no longer rely on a captive market. In due course they will become competitive or stop selling parts or the aussie dollar will tank when China gets the tomtitts with us and stops buying our dirt...

Eitherway its not worth whinging about - the world ends next year and I still havent caught a metrey ;) Now that is important!

Can I make this point. I am a merchant who imports and resells machine shop supplies and engineers cutting tools. I would buy Australian made tools: if available, if at a reasonable price, if sold in required quantities not by the ton or the box of 2000, if available on short lead times.

Australian makers do not seem to want the business of small merchants. We are referred to "distributors" by the makers. "Distributors" want to sell in bulk. In other words, they don't keep stock, we have to keep stock. Examples, having to order 30 tons of a particular grade of steel, "minimum make". Forget this, I can get it from Taiwan in any desired quantity for less per ton landed. Obsolete taps and dies, "specials" not less than $80 each. I get them made in China for a small fraction of this. I buy individual precision tools from the USA, prestige brands, at retail and sent here air-mail, possibly the most expensive way of buying stock. Yet the tools land here and can be sold for about half of Oz distributor prices. The distributors receive substantial discounts from list price, ship in bulk in containers, not air-mail. They should be able to undercut me.
