    Ignition Key Help

    Hi all,
Have searched the fora, but nod any luck on this topic.
We are renovating so our place is very messy and quite chaotic!
I have a Series Three tray back ute I use to cart stuff to and fro.
Well, I have misplaced, thrown out or lost the only ignition key I have for it. So it stays loaded with builders rubble in my driveway.

The key might turn up after we finish the reno in two weeks and clean up or might not!

I was thinking, maybe, just maybe, being a simple car designed in simpler times that many series three ignitions start from the same keys, maybe just obtain another. Am I too optimistic?

If not, I have access to replacemenmt ignition barrels, similar to those in military isuzu 110's. Anyone know if one like that could be used as a replacement?

Any amateur crims amongst us who could teach me to hot wire it?

Apart from handy advice like cutting a spare and putting it in a safe place, anyone have any other sound advice?

    Ralph

    G'day Ralph1Malph

Most of the early Series used FA,FS series keys, very early had the No on the barrel but later had it stamped on side of the barrel, but a good locksmith should be able to pick the barrel out of the switch and cut you a new one

Or somebody close with a series might be able to try their key

    cheers

    Thanks for replying.
This is a an 81 SIII. I don't know if that classifies it as early lol!
I only discovered my loss of key today so I haven't looked at the barrel or how dificult it is to remove. That will be in a few weeks time.

Anyone close to Ferny Hills? Care to pop around for a beer and try of your key?

Ralph, remove the barrel from the door and take it to a locksmith, they will have no trouble cutting a key, inexpensively, from it.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I can easilly pick a landrover lock, but you shouldn't need to, you shouldn't have a steering lock on it so should be able to hot wire from the rear of the switch, if you do have a steering lock it is a little more complicated, but still easy to pick and remove the barrel. Would probably take about 5 minutes, but you are a bit far out of my way otherwise I'd gladly drop in and unlock it.

    Thanks guys, on the money.

Took about 10 min for me to remove the ignition shroud and hot wire it.

I feel like a crim. Was down at the superemarket and felt kinda naughty lol

Anyway, now to get the barrel to a locksmith when I get back.

    Cheers

    Ralph
