We have a property/co-op up in the Strathbogie Rangies in Vic.

One afternoon around 2.30 on a darkish winters day , a large ( say medium sized labrador ) jet black domestic/feral cat came up out of the bushy creek reserve low to the ground about 150m away.

When one of us in a group of 20 who saw it yelled out , it turned slowly and slunk back into the bush.

It was definately a domestic cat but fairly big

Combine that with a couple of Koalas giving the pig type noise , mating call in the middle of the night and it sounds like a feral pig being eaten by a big cat

Makes going for a wee outside in the middle of the night interesting

It's more interesting than you think.
    Of course I don't mind....
I;m sure he has his reasons but as to what those are well.... that's not for me to know I guess.

Nah possession isn't illegal. "Trafficking (importing a species from a place where its protected) is illegal but that's not theh case here, (nor, as an asde, would it be provable in any situation i can think of).

Hmm. Here in QLD we've found a way to pee indoors.

    Sorry Vlad,

I am in the sceptics camp too. I also just emailed the pics to a couple of friends who are a senior zoo supervisor and a senior field ecologist (respectively) and they don't believe them for a second.

It sounds like you know the guy personally, but until the head (and or the remains of the body) are verified independently... (in written form)

You sure he wasn't off on a hunting trip to a country where these animals still exist???

And I wouldn't expect them to stake their reputations on a photo posted on the internet either. I wouldn't.

Doesn't mean it's not true though.

I thought it was going to be a black panther/puma type cat not a tiger, heard all the myths of black cats that were yank mascots during WWII but not a tiger. for one if it was a real tiger, zoological authorities would have been out to capture it alive and it would have been all over the news.

I like to believe that there is a tassie tiger still out there although after all this time its also highly unlikely - bit late april fools Vlad.

Possession might not be illegal but having a recently severed tigers head might just lead to the question, "Hmmm! ...where did you get this?"

Try and explain to the Zoo vet that, "Oh I just shot it and then later on found it dead and squashed on the road and then brought its head here to check out what animal it is." and see what responce you would get.

One would reasonably expect that a recently killed Tiger body part had come from overseas and that would make it an illegal import. What Zoo vet would risk not reporting what would reasonably be considered to be an illegal act?

As for proof I would imagine that it would be up to the shooter to prove where he got the head rather then the police to prove that he imported it, afterall there is no proof (to date) that tigers roam around the Australian bush.
