Hi,
I would love to see a photo of how one fits in the Puma engine bay, I have had a look but haven't figured it out yet.
cheers
Hi Guys
I am a new member and live in Dubai.
I own an LR110 Puma SW(2011).I will be in Perth in August and I was thinking of buying a shower unit as above and fixing it into the vehicle but I have also seen some adverse comments re heating times, etc.
Do any of you have the new Puma engine with a heat exchanger shower fitted and how is it performing? Do you think its worth the cash or is boiled water with a hose and jerrycan still the way to go ?

I think the boiled water / bucket and 12v shower pump is teh way to go - MUCH cheaper and portable.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Got one in a TD5, only used for the longer trips and it's nice to have.
The heating issue is pretty simple - in the morning a cold, idling diesel just doesn't warm up. So switch your routing to showering at the end of the day, after camp is set up. It's more than hot enough - too hot sometimes.

The other more portable and apparantly very efficient way to go is with one of the Coleman gas hot water units such as this one which includes a FREE COLEMAN SHOWER ADAPTOR HOSE VALUED AT $19.00

No need to reschedule your shower times with one of these!

Hi,
I agree with the bucket idea, I'm not so keen on idling an engine for hot water.
If the exchanger was an easy fit, I would look at circulating it through a holding tank while driving. Similar to the bucket idea, but using waste heat instead of fire wood.
There is space on my D130 ute to fit a tank under the tray, I may be able to grab some heat off the exhaust pipe running just under where a tank would go.
Still in the feasibility study on that one though.
cheers
If you are going to have a fire then the bucket of hot water is fine. If not then glind/twine or coleman but don't try and boil water over the stove it takes too long.

Yes, I have a Twine shower in the Puma.
This is now the 4th vehicle that I have had this Shower installed - works great every time. In cooler climates we generally shower when the engine is still warm from the days drive; in warmer weather there is no need to even have the engine running.
There are some photos of the install here: Landy Build
The water is usually sourced from an undercar tank, so we can have a shower after a bike ride.
I can also recirculate the water in the tank whilst driving, but only need to do so if we are in the High Country in the middle of winter and the water is really really cold (i.e. one cycle through the heat exchanger does not make it hot enough).
My inlet is the highly scientific garden hose. In theory we can shower alongside a creek but never have.
We just use 10 litre jerries. Idling isn't a problem, showers tend to be very short when water gets short.
And if not warm enough, we just recycle by sticking the shower head back into the jerry. It doesn't take long for the temp to come up.
And while you're getting ready, never ever leave it idling with the shower pump off - the water in the system becomes scalding. Better to recycle as above.
