    Car ad scam?

    Hi all,
I was going through some car ads tonight with my neighbour and found this one on carsales:
2001 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY ES II 01MY Private Cars For Sale in VIC - carsales.com.au

I swear that vehicle was owned by a member on here and was for sale on ebay recently for a much higher price. When I saw the details I couldn't believe my eyes, there is no way anyone would sell a D2 in that spec for that price, the giveaway was there is no contact details for the seller.
    Cheers Matt

Could be. The old "Lang Hancock" 300SE Mercedes coupe which has been on carsales for years.
    1967 MERCEDES 300SE 119088 W112 Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au
was advertised in "carsguide" for well under $10,000 and the location given was Melton.
Of course, I rang and left a message "I wanted to see the car" and "could he call he to arrange a time".
    They didn't return my call.
Hey Matt, want to go down and inspect it? I'll send off an enquiry.

    Hi Mick,
I'd just love to have that 4.6 in my engine bay, these scammers are just a pain in the arse, I help my neighbour sell cars on carsales and because he does not have internet, I recieve all the scamming emails.

I got a car advertised on there too.
I had no idea there were more ships engineers wanting my car for their dads birthday than there were ships.

    Hmmm. Could be.

    Hey guys,

It gets even muddier. The vehicle in the photos is actually a D2A spec i.e. MY03 or later. the twin pocket headlights and rear light configuration changed in that year from the previous generation. So the 2001 as given in the ad is clearly wrong.

It's actually not that unusual for no phone number. Some people just don't want to hear from the tyre-kickers so they thin the herd by forcing people to email.

It's just across a few 'burbs from me (well 20 minutes on a good day anyway) so I'd be curious to check it out too.

Either it's a freakish good deal, and anything that looks too good to be true ..... and all that, or it's a scam. Eh, you just never know.

Shame I don't have the readies just in case

Would love to know what you find out.

    Cheers,
    Iain

    OK.
    That's it.
    I'm sending off an inquiry.
I could do with replacing the Commodore.

I love the emails where they say they will buy but want to know price, condition, and details of vehicle, if you reply "its in the ad", they reply "what price and how may k's". Its a bloody waste of time, but then there is the tyre kickers that text you at all hours and say they will come but never turn up or when they realise you live 40 mins from melb they think it is the end of the earth.

I believe the car had the lights updated, I think the original owner lived on the eastern side of melb. I'm not a fan of email enquiries, it seems to be used only by non genuine buyers (tyre kickers), direct phone conversation followed up by a viewing is the only sign of a genuine buyer.

The headlights & taillights are 2003/2004 but the Series II badge on the tailgate indicates an earlier car. The lights could well be a home upgrade.
