Thread: does anyone use a topside oil extractor?

I use a pneumatic one to oil change on a big Volvo marine engine (no sump plug)
It is the worlds biggest PIA pumping 20 litres of oil through a 10mm dip stick tube.

The sumpon the volvo is rusty and we will pull the engine to work on it. I will be welding a sump plug in and as the boat is on a trailer I will from then on change oil by dropping into the bilge then draining the bilge.

Maybe for changing oil in diffs IF the tubing was 15mm diameter or greater?

With the pneumatic one on the link, you'd do just as well with a garden sprayer. Don't think it would work to suck the oil out thought

Can't you get a pump to go on the end of your 18 V battery drill.
By reversing the drill you could pump in or out ,no?

yeah they work ok but I think they are more high volume low pressure, for this to work it needs to be opposite. My only concern is that it does not drain sludge. A good reason to have one is to fill up diffs, gearbox and TF case as they are very hard to get oil into, with this you put in metal hook tube, and just sit back a metre and fill it.
