well iv founda motor for my new project in the form of a 1969 280se benz,
as the motor is buggerd im fitting another one but from the same model,
so the engine no's will be diffrent and once the motor is in im going to get it regoed in QLD, what will i need to do as the old rego will say a diff engine no.
when i go to DOT do i just tell them about the new number or is it harder then that
thanks nic

once it has been roadworthy. the new engine number will be shown on the roadworthy. Make sure you take the vehicle in as it will be inspected to confirm the new number. Not much of a problem aslong as the paper work is correct.

IMHO you may make life difficult for yourself.
Is it registered now?
If it is like NSW all you have to do is go to a Dept Transport or whatever it is called after you put the new engine in and have the car inspected and the new engine number noted .
You MUST have a valid receipt for the new engine and it would appear the car. it also must not have a REVS against it in the state where it was registered.
Why not ask Transport exactly what to do. I found them helpful on transferring rego from NSW.
If it is from interstate perhaps it would be best to have the car inspected with the old engine , then with the new engine.

G'day Stig0000
Is the vehicle still regoed? in Qld, if so it will just be a case of going into Dept Of Transport and filling out the engine change form and changing it, if it is unregistered, then it would be worth talking to Transport dept first, if regoed interstate, with B----- motor, I would advise that if it will go, get it RWC/Regoed with that motor, then it is a simple change as above
cheers

nar the last rego was in 07 i think it was, so iv got most of the last rego forms,, and im buying the motor from a shop so im guessing the recept will tell me the engines NO. and that,
i think it may be abit hard getting a roady with the curent motor not even bolted in
i wish it was that easy,
i did think of just swaping numbers aswell
but wed never do that would we

Good Luck,
And be happy you don't want to do it in the ACT. First of all a roadworthy at the servo (if you can find one that remembers the "service" part of the name) then off to the Rego office to get stuffed around for a few hours for Identity Check.

In NSW, reg or no reg, you need a blue slip. If no reg to ID the car, which will simply record the eng no as sighted. If registered and changed than need receipt, get blue slip to ID the new engine no and take to RTA (no inspection required) and fill out paperwork and pay (hint do it when you renew and you can con them into not charging).
