    Ultimate Roof Racks.

    Hello All!

I have recently joined the land rover brotherhood! We got a range rover 89 classic. It was pretty stock when I brought it and only had 130,000kms on it. Not sure how genuine these kms are but over all the car is very neat and runs well.
I have put a stainless steel bullbar on it and and currently making some stainless scrub bars and side steps.

I want to built some roof racks I run a welding business so basically I'm looking for ideas for what to include on the racks.I will make the rack from scratch so the possibilities are endless. I'm looking for photos/ideas....
I will also be building a rear bar so if you have a nice one let me know it doesn't matter what car its off as I am just looking for inspiration.

On a separate note, I have been blown away with how many land rover owners wave now!! I even had a flat tyre a few weeks back and within 10mins I had a disco pull over and ask if he could help! I think this is great....

    Cheers
    Daniel

Welcome to the pack! Congrats to your purchase as well. Land Rovering is not as much owning a vehicle as it is a complete life style. You will see...

As for your query regarding the roof racks, there is an abundance of these commercially available already (as you may have figured out). What you want or need determines the design of course. My 2c here are that I recommend building a rack that sits on the rain gutter the whole length of the rack (like e.g. Patriot racks) and is not only supported and secured by individual feet, thus spreading the load over a wider area.

Good on ya' and good luck with your project!

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.

    Hey Jojo,

    Thanks for you input mate..

I am setting the rangie up for a bit more serious 4wding and camping. I like the idea of having the mounts go the full length of the gutter, originally I was only putting 4 mounts per side but I think I will change it to the full length mounts. this will be slightly more fabrication due to the natural bow in the roof, but I think it will be well worth it.

So far I will be mounting the following onto the rack,
    A shovel
    Jerry can holders (removable)
    Awning
    spotlights
    Side ladder

If you think of anything else that would be handy on the racks let me know.

    Thanks Mr ploppy,

I like the way Hannibal have the runners going from front to back to decrease wind resistance, i think I will add this in too.
