Not in my house if you want to survive. Don't ge me wrong, she can cook, but as a chef...

Oven should be at 170-180. It basically seals on the underside in the pan and cooks into the middle with the heat but doesn't dry out like it would if cooked wholly in the pan.

But the again, I only get to the cook till bloody on one side then eat.

Also olive oil should be on the steak not in the frypan/ spray oil on BBQ and BBQ/pan should be as hot as possible. The let it sit for half the time you cooked it....ie if overall cooking time was 10mins....let rest for 5....here endth the lesson ,

    Peasants you say!! .....

If it only takes ten minutes to cook to medium rare then all I will say is that isn't a steak ...it is a poor excuse for one at best and wouldn't be much bigger then a lamb chop.

If a piece of meat is a decent size then you will end up turning it more than once if you want it cooked as well as it can be and you will vary the temperature while cooking it and your BBQ will need a lid because you will use it to half bake it as well as BBQ it.

Anything under a kilo of prime beef isn't a meal ...its a snack...

A T-bone that is around 1.5 kilo's takes up to 40 minutes to cook to medium rear depending how hot your BBQ is.

    I might be a peasant but I'm not a sook! ...

    cheers,

Pffft...I love to cook....I probably cook on average 3-4 times a week for my family....most of that after working all day....picking up the kids.....and then cooking a home cooked meal for them and SWMBO for when she comes home. It means I get the "extra's" later on

    Regards

Well maybe in TerryO's Man land where a hearty is only a steak away .........a few times maybe required.....more a case of oven cooking as well for something that big. If you are talking your average steak 250-500gms....then turning more than once is once to much.

Yep, as above, get the grill very very hot, depending on thickness and desired finish of preferred roadkill adjust cooking time but only ever turn meat once.

Also as above, rest your meat in a warm enviroment for approx half the original cooking time as stated above. This is what lets all the juices come out of the meat and can make a otherwise well cooked(****ed) piece of meat taste good.

On BBQ's there is often a rack at the back where you can comfortably rest your meat to let the juices drip through. Season the meat with a bit of sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

    Bring it on.

I would have thought anyone calling themselves the 'Anti-Nance Man' would appreciate a decent man size steak ...

If you know how to BBQ a piece of steak to perfection then 250 grams is never enough and just ends up frustrating the quests.

I steak that size is good for a sandwich though.

Anyway at least we have found out one thing and that is my meat is bigger then your meat ...

    cheers,

I can't cook and I have no intention of learning. I simply do not enjoy it.

I didn't cook when I was single, I ate out or my land lady cooked for me.

I would thank that response if the thank thingy was there. Absolutely I agree that what you are talking about is a decent man steak and something the Anti Nance Man would whole heartedly endorse. My response was on the initial responses ( obviously nance's and wouldn't consume anything more than 300gms) and in that instance......one turn would be enough.

If however we were talking manly steaks........where knuckles dragged the ground and our women are there for warmth and beer....then a whole different style of cooking is required.

    Regards

    Stevo

P.S.I buy a whole quarter of a cow when I buy meat......is that meaty enuff for ya

Hats off to you on this one ...I have never brought quarter of a cow at one time ...ever!

So I guess your meat is bigger then mine ...bugger!

As for knuckles dragging on the ground there is nothing wrong with that ...is there?
I wear welding gloves most of the time so not to damage mine and have found that works well.

Anyway I'm off now to get warmed and have a beer.
