    Fuel pump fuse.

So....Eric is awaiting a tow truck again!!!! At this stage he will probably be two hours! I am at home hacking his land rover forum. Well... we need help We replaced the fuel pump about six months ago so I hope that's not it. Anyway we were going for an errand drive at six in foggy Melbourne with the kids in tow and the defender blew the fuel pump fuse.
We replaced it and it blew it again! We thought ok we will check out the pump and as it was dark Eric was pulling out this and screaming about that and checked the connections under his seat then my seat then under the hood and then we lifted the tray as the brackets were not on and he looked at the pump. Then we put another fuse in and again it blew.
Why does it keep blowing???? Why aren't land rovers simple? Any way as usual Eric would consult his land rover bible.....aka this forum so I have beat him to it.

And he was screaming at it by the way.....I was ever so supportive of the land rover and did not call it useless or any thing like that at any time...... If you can please offer some advise. And also if there is another post here relating to this my apologies I tried looking but couldn't find it.

Everything is simple AFTER you have worked it out.

I would be looking for squashed/loose/damaged wiring somewhere. Finding an intermittent short can be a hassle but a 100W or larger lamp wired across a fuse holder will go bright when the short happens. If the lamp glows dully then normal current is flowing. Then unplug each and every connector and relay to do with the fuel pump until the globe doesn't light at all. Then you have isolated the area of the fault. If it is in the fuel pump assembly (poor cable crimps maybe) the pump will have to come out.

    I'm on the road again.
Looks like the new fuel pump packed it in, lucky for me I kept the old one to put back in and that it also had not packed it in (I thought it was the original problem I had back then, but it must have been the injector harness)
I can hear my old mans voice echoing in my ear "Never throw away anything unless you absolutely have to".
So lucky for me I didn't, and also I won't be buying a OME fuel pump again I'll stick to VDO for the next one.
And big thanks to you Bee Utey.

Funny how the Mrs hopped onto AULRO to post that message, and "I GET IN TROUBLE FOR BEING ON HERE" all the time.

    Sad times Eric....sad times.........

know where you coming from...I can not get down my hallway because SHE has a whole load of "Her Stuff" packed into it, Access to my section of our built -in wardrobe is restricted( NOTE: MY SECTION---Not hers) because SHE has her collection of vintage and antique dolls packed in boxes in front of it, 'just until she works out what to do with them' ( My suggestion of what to do with them, was rejected out of hand) .......I get into trouble, because...and it is pointed out to all visitors......that I have 3 Land Rover parts, in small boxes, on the sideboard cupboard. There truly is no justice in this world we live in.......I have to stop now and go find a tissue....

mad: Ok I found out the problem with the fuel pump.
It was the shielding on the grounding wire it was brittle and had split in 3 places.
So being submersed in diesel would not help why it happen right then I don't know.
I can't fix it either as the wire is permanently bonded in place at the plug end.
But I will have a better look at another time, when I calm down a bit.
Got to love Land Rovers..... sometimes I wonder.
