6 months?im lucky to get 6 days off work here...
seriously, take lots of pics and post here, K?![]()
Well looks like all the planning has fallen into place and the wife and I are about (mid August) to do "The Lap" for 6 monthsin the D3 and a 16.5ft semi-off road caravan (2 ton) setup for some remote / free camping.
Time to be a sponge and put it out to you guys 'n gals for things to see and do or avoid.
Good camp spots would also be handy... got Camps 6 but local knowledge and experience can't be beaten.
Plan is to go anti clockwise to get through the top end before it gets too wet and hot.
Bring it on......... and thanks in advance..![]()

I was going to say you could come and visit me on Fraser Island but I'll be back just before you leave - mmm 4 weeks of fishing should just about be enough for the year
Do you still have all the notes/details from the Cape Trip?

If I took that long of I don't think you would be able to make me step foot back in the office door.
Yes we can give you heaps of top free camp spots and other locations ...need to know you're itinerary first though

Hey Ho Hars.
As we are traveling solo a tad limited to how far off the beaten track (no winch but 4 x maxtrax) we can go but am taking camping gear so we can leave the van.
Sorta thinking kinda loosely Weipa, Normanton, The Isa, Uluru, Darwin and NT for 2-3 weeks, Bungle Bungles, Lake Argyle, Gibb River Rd (subject to conditions) then cruise down the West Coast and detour East to do the loop through the mining areas to Kalgoolrie...
Flinders Ranges, Murray River and Vic High country as also on the hit list
That about as far as we got so open to many and varied options...

Weipa, there is only 1 camp ground there, right in the middle of town next to the shopsWe loved the mine tour. You have been there haven't you?
The other major towns just pick the best/cheapest campground. Don't rule out National Parkes a well for camping.
Bungles, we took a helicopter flight from Warnum/Turkey creek which was fantastic, then decided to drive in as we were told the road had been graded, never again, I don't think towing a caravan in there is a good idea either, the camp ground is no where near the walking tracks so another drive. I could go on for ever, 1 little gem of a place we found was Flora River Nature Park, Sth of Katherine off the Victoria H/way, The N/P Ranger reconmended it to us, has great swimming & fishing
Kunnurra, the caravan Park behind Mirima National Park, it is called Mini Bungles Bungles
A couple of tips, stop early at free camp grounds to beat the grey nomads from taking the best sitesIf the free camp isn't suitable enough you can move to the next.
You should have mentioned this last weekend when we saw you

Thanks Mrs HH.
Yep suppose I should have but the day gotta away from me and also just didn't know how to respond when you told me it was time for a shower.whilst Mr HH was out collecting wood.
Already sussed out get to camps early... and the Finance Minister is keen for the flight over the Bungle Bungles.... Did have a quick chat to Mr HH about it and the drought up his shorts whilst getting some footage.
The AULRO Cape Crusaders a couple of years ago pulled into Weipa only to find out most of the town was shut down due to the Cairns Show and cos town was quiet they closed the bridge down for maintenance out to the mine... so better luck this time... We did stay at the caravan park you mentioned.... beaut spot.
