Thread: Banned the wearing of hoodies

I read with interest as I'm wearing a hoodie right now.. and I have done so pretty much every day for the last few months.

A hoodie may have a poor reputation but it's a very good piece of clothing.. especially in Canberra when you have this freezing wind and rain. All the haters can jump up and down about them being daggy / whatever but the fact is that they are warm, cheap and comfortable.

I put the hood up when its really cold so my ears don't freeze off.

ALSO, there is something that is missing in this argument, and that is my face is mine. If I don't want to show it to someone, I shouldn't have to. Now I know that this is going to cause a stir about 'what have you got to hide' etc but I believe that privacy is a basic human right.

In Sydney I get treated very differently if I walk into a shop with a hoodie on than if I'm wearing a suit.. more so in QLD. In Canberra no one seems to care - people just judge each other less, and choose not to live in fear from everyone around them.

That's because when it's cold, hoodies have a place, but in Sydney during the day and moreso in Qld (where the Mall incident happened), if you're wearing a hoodie up there's a common belief that your likely in a gang or someone to watch closely for a crime your about to commit.

As reported above, a ban on hoodies in a London mall, saw a 50% reduction in petty crime and increase in paying customers. It speaks for itself.

BTW: I still don't think it's cold enough to wear a jumper in Sydney yet others are all rugged up as if they're in the snow. Then in my office they ask to open the windows and turn the a/c on because it's too warm.

Are you kidding ? It's freezing cold in the morning when I leave the house at 05:30 am to get to work just as well Katmandu softshell jacket does really nicely to keep the warm inside , but it doesn't come with a Hood

Nah, we would just claim computer glitch or electrical failure. They have already agreed to site rules by entering site and signing the appropriate paperwork citing conditions of access.
I agree with your sentiment, detention can only be applied if you are certain or believe a crime has been committed. You can not just detain a person for wearing a hoodie.

AULRO hoodies, yay. Can we have our names across the back so we can be identified when being dragged out of Target.

For the last blardy time...............IT WAS NOT IN QLD OR THE GOLD COAST . For the record I live on the GC....and right now...wearing a hoody. Mind you after a certain age for men...wearing the actual hoody over your head is akin to wearing an earring......not a good look....regardless of whether you think it is .

As for not being allowed to wear them in a shopping centre...firstly...you wouldn't need to....regardless of whether it was the Gold Coast or GERALDTON WA where the article originated.

Having said that...with it being a 4 yr old kid.......is not taking into account the old saying of...there is the letter of the law and then there is the spirit of the law......some commonsense should have come into the equation. My 3 yr old after kindy tonight will no doubt have his hoody on and we will need to go to our local to grab a few things.....I wouldnt be taking his hood down,

Yea but you live in the hills and deserve to be freezing. (You know when I used to compete, my x-country ski suit was made of lycra.)

Ditto. I get looked at as if I'm strange 'cos I'm in shorts and T-shirt. Today the postmaster came up to my wife as we checked the PO box and asked if we needed some money to buy me a jacket and long pants.

I do have a pair of jeans. I wear them when I'm riding the bike.
