    Tyre Pressure Monitoring

After a close shave with a blow out in a remote location (and finally realising why everyone complains about the jack in the D3) I've come to the conclusion that tyre pressure monitoring systems aren't a gimmicky toy for the bloke who has everything else, after all.

Soooo, just wondering what peoples thoughts and experiences are of the various systems.

I'm thinking along the lines of the type that screws into the valve (from the outside) due to mainly ease of fitting.

    Cheers

I have been supplying the TYREDOG units for a couple of years. Well supported but local suppliers are now too expensive. I now suggest using web suppliers and ebay. I've been using a 6 wheel unit for a couple of years without any problems except replacing batteries about every 8 or 9 months.

    Thumbs up

I have a 4 sensor Tyredog (TM-1000 i think) system, found on ebay and it works a treat. Need to make sure the sensors are fitted properly or they let air out of the valves. Thankfully, with the monitoring system, you know soon enough!

I've had Tyredog on my RRS for a year or so. Coming down through the King Leopold Ranges on the Gibb a couple of weeks ago, the only way I knew we had a problem was because the monitor I'd velcro'd to the dash started beeping...the tyre quickly deflated thanks to a sharp stone through the tread. So well worth the purchase, although I think the system reads a bit higher than actual pressures checked with a Michelin gauge, maybe 1 or 2 psi.

The 6-wheel unit from the ebay supplier appears to use 6 of the 4/5 wheel 433 MHz 60 psi sensors directly with the truck monitor (ie without the relay unit which is n/a from the Tyredog web-site), so I assume he's getting at least the 6th sensor specially programmed. It saves having to buy and run the relay unit and doesn't cost much more for the option to monitor the trailer or van.

Edit: From the picture the 6-wheel kit appears to be original manufacturer 6-wheel packaging, so even better.
Edit 2: Its a standard kit that's not promoted on the Tyredog web-site (TD-2200A-X).

    Search ebay for "tyredog".

wouldn't you have a problem with people steeling them?

people steel the plastic and metal caps, why not the wireless sensors?

The Tyredog ones have a locking ring but I don't know how effective they are. I suspect the external sensors are probably more suited for use away from the population. I'm not yet convinced to fit them but for a remote area trip that could change.

I'm seriously thinking of splashing out on this system, unfortunately the £650 asking price is proving to be a bitter pill to swallow for what is essentially a tyre pressure monitor and reversing camera albeit one that would integrate perfectly in my Puma.
