Maybe moving to Darwin
My wife and i may be making a move from brissy up to Darwin in the near future due to her work. Reason for this thread is we would appreciate any info about the place ,general ins and outs , whats good whats bad, that kind of thing.
Allways found it alot more helpfull to ask the locals or exlocals rather then just look on the net.
Any info help etc would be much appreciated.
Cheers Darren

Darwin and the NT in general is a great place to live with lots to see and do, but it is like anywhere, it's what you make of it. Kakadu and Litchfield are at your doorstep, the beaches are beautiful, great fishing, the city is small and compact and peak hour lasts about 15 minutes as well as friendly and welcoming people...
Things to consider are:
1. Heat and humidity - It gets very sticky in summer, especially during the build up, that horrible time before the wet starts. Lots of people come up in June or July and say how great the weather is (which it is) and want to live here, but you have to experience it in November to really appreciate how uncomfortable it can become. It can make or break people.. Yes houses have aircon, but it can still take it's toll on some.
2. Cost of Living - Darwin can be an expensive place to live. Housing rents are high, food costs more and generally all things cost a little extra.
3. Distance - It is a long way from anywhere (except Bali) and there is not a huge selection of flights back south and what is avalaible is usually at some ungodly hour of the morning.
4. Social order issues - depending on where you live and where you come from Darwin's public social order issues can take a little getting used to. It aint the green leafy suburbs of Sydeny or Melbourne..
Don't let me put you off, but come with your eye's open.
