USA and Mediterranean were supplied with gum trees by Australia in the twenties and thirties.

It was part of an environmental program (CSIRO?) to put trees which could survive in arid conditions. The idea being that:
    • Trees would stop erosion and stop desert encroachment.
    • Create conditions which would make it rain more often.
    • Being hard wood the timber could be used by the locals.
We gave the world trees they sent us toads.
