    ENGINE PRICES_MILWAUKEE AUCTION

I spent the last two days at the Harry A Miller Club annual historic races at the Milwaukee Mile. Great days and amazing cars.

There was an auction on Saturday morning of race car stuff from a deceased estate.

Here are some of the prices I remember- Miller 91 s/c engine, late 1920's $250,000; Miller 110 s/c circa 1930, $72,500; HAL dohc conversion on Ford A, $14,000, Cragar dohc on Ford A $30,000, Speedway dohc on Ford A $30,000, Frontenac dohc on Fords T & A, several of, $18,000-$25,000. Three speed and reverse gearbox, no identifying marks, badges, or numbers, finned all over magnesium housing, massive input shaft and output flange, a serious horsepower unit, bargain of the day $2,000. Two genuine and unused Bugatti brass ID plates, $2,000.

I found and bought some much needed Offenhauser engine parts for a mate in Brisbane. I 'phoned him a 4.00 am Brisbane time to get the prices approved. I said, "Jack, I bought those Offy bits. You did say price wasn't a concern, didn't you?" Deep silence. Then I told him the prices. "What else has he got and how much?" then "Buy it all." I have some more to inspect in Cincinnati and Dayton.

Off to Indianapolis on Monday to see the museum.

I just remembered that a Miller 91 intercooler fetched $7,500. You could polish back to its original appearance and hang it on a lounge room wall. These are a work of art.
