You reckon that's bad - a sample of Abbot's views on climate change, emissions trading scheme and carbon tax: Abbott versus Abbott
"If Australia is greatly to reduce its carbon emissions, the price of carbon intensive products should rise. The Coalition has always been instinctively cautious about new or increased taxes. That’s one of the reasons why the former government opted for an emissions trading scheme over a straight-forward carbon tax. Still, a new tax would be the intelligent sceptic’s way to deal with minimising emissions because it would be much easier than a property right to reduce or to abolish should the justification for it change."

So its a vote grabbing reason.. I dont understand how any fossil fuel using item can be exempt, as they all pollute, and if we are serious about going down this path then it should be tackled all together.
Why just 1 section being implemented in 2 yrs, and that being deisel used by heavy industry..
Cheers Ean
I cannot see how any of the policies on the Carbon Tax propesed legislation can be a vote grabbing when it is clear that the ALP do not do well on the polls.
I think that the delay have something to do to avoid have to soon a sperk on the cost of living and give the industry time to adjust.
It would not suprrise me if later on some ideas will be implemented to assist the transport operators to upgrade their truks to a more efficient fleet.
Itquite simple, if every car owner and public transport user had to pay more because of a carbon tax on fuel not 1 person would agree to the tax.
So by not implementing it, then the overall effect reduces so people will support the tax..Vote Grabbing..
You cannot tell me that every motor vechicle in the country does not contribute to pollution..So why is fuel exempt.
Cheers Ean
Only the selfish who is concerned for him /her standard of living and not capable to made a sacrifice for the next generations would vote against a policy to give some hope to the future.
We are talking of a very small contribution by everyone which will be the start of a good thing.
Even if in doubt about global warming and what the impartial scientific community said about it, I guess that a small effort it is justified.
On a different note it is interesting that the carbon tax only will increase the carbon by $2 a ton and that each worker in the mining industry produce one million profit to the people that own or have shares on the mining industry.
The only vote graber here is Abbott who use panic and not alternative policy looking for his interest and not of the inerest of Australia or the planet.
This was emailed to me earlier today. I wanted to stay out of this debate but I thought this was worth posting.

The announcement attached proves that Labors ‘ carbon tax is a farce.
Labor give “big corporation” carbon producers tax concessions, while Gillard is taxing middle and high income wages to cover costs and buy votes of low income earners.
If they are really worried about reducing carbon then they should be rewarding companies that comply.
Brickworks have reduced emissions by 40%, more than is required by legislation and because their emissions are now under the threshold they do not qualify for concessions.
Companies that produce high carbon are using the Tax as an excuse to increase prices and now those businesses that have invested heavily to do the right thing are also going to have to increase prices because they no longer “Qualify” for concessions.
Low income earners are going to be fooled into voting for Gillard because only those who can afford will be paying for it.
In the end we will all be footing the bill, it doesn’t matter how you look at it, everything is going to cost us more, doesn’t matter if we are low, middle or high income earners.
Big business will be better off doing nothing, otherwise they will lose their concessions, and the level of carbon reduction will stay the same. What a farce!!!!
Some people think that its about abott and opposing the government.
Thats B/S.If it was then the media would have packed it in weeks ago.
the government has the numbers it can pass whatever crap they want.they dont even need to let us know.If the government publicly say the sky is falling then some will believe but most will have a think and enter into conversation. Those that think they will be effected might enquire. If your a labour party back bencher or prselection wantabe and a hundred people arrive on your door I dont realy think they will put blinkers on and quote chapter and verse.
This whole thing is about the labour party re-election if they didnt do this they be destroyed as a do nothing party. This tax as it is is a money go round with more for the pensioners--labour heartland--they can dribble up any crap over the next 12months,as long as someone doesnt do the walk of same across the floor crap like this will be marched out for the city folk to have their lot in life given meaning. with the destruction of the economy for those that have a job will pay for the cheeper house loans or credit cards.
This will be my first ever cyle with a good paying job-and some cash to buy up cheep stuff without being woried about a socialist iposed idea of what i must think.Im now 46 and not heard any of these grand plans work.
hazard reduction australia wide and land development [QLD] was included in CO2 emmision-and yes WE pay for it..one of those crap things decided in treaties like kyoto.thanks KEV .its like the selling permits from carbon storage in farming activities.who sold their right to a permit for the free light bulbs or hot water service folks??
Im involved with RFS and I advise people to bury fallen timber. If they burn it im suposed to record it-but with satalites it all gets recorded 24/7.
LET ALL SIGN KYOTO TO GET THE CASH.and where did the cash come from?
this is the type of thing that the public dont care or understand or could ever hope to keep up with.I care about future generations as a rural 5th generation red neck australian, allowing people to pollute-purchase products that promote pollution upsets me.importing throw away products to fill landfill.lets add these industries to the carbon tax crap.
having only 500 companies pay for the carbon..thats crap.listen to the information suppliedby the labour spokes persons.
they are saying that if you pollute above X amount you become one of the 500+,so if you break up a big company then I wont pay-dont think so.
the original 1000 number was because it included transport an these gents are doing it tuff because of state/fedral screwups and socialised centralisation.
