LR clamping down on the use of their name?

It seems LR is clamping down on companies using Rover in their name.

Rover Renovations in the USA has been told to change their name and that Rover is not permitted.

    Suggestions, ideas, concerns?

I kind of like (but my wife hates) "Shupack's Shop"

or "Non-Specific British 4x4 with failing air suspension repair services and non dealership parts supply chain"

or "Running Over low Volume Encroaching Retailers"

Good luck to them in Aus.

It is Rover, not Land Rover, the logo is completely different and they are not in a similar industry. Rover Reno's should just give them the finger.

I'm not sure, but I think that something similar may have happened with Grace Brothers the store and Grace Brothers carpet cleaning.

Sounds a bit off to me.

Firstly, are we talking about Landrover picking on Rover Renovations, or the Rover car company picking on Rover Renovations?

Rover is a word in the english language, surely it's not on breach of any copyright or trade mark? Especially as its coupled with other words.

If it were a direct rip off e.g. "Land Rover Renovations" I could understand the need to change, as when you put the two words together it resembles a brand name. However, if you're silly enough to make your brand name a regular word in the English language, then you shouldn't expect everyone else to stop using it.

I'd have thought LR would be overjoyed that there are folk out there, DEDICATED to keeping "Iconic British 4WD" vehicles running...and 'out there' where potential buyers can be encouraged....seeing older models STILL running...

But that would be arrogant of me...

PS, that's an Interesting name for a business...

Valid point, - "Rover Car Company" (does it still exist?) or "Land Rover" - which I believe is owned by TATA of India...

If the latter...then its the Indians being precious, not the English.

I think that most employs don't particularly care, and the further up the heirarchy you go the more enthusiasts become a nuisance to what they do.

Actually, if you have enough money (ie pharmacutical companies, oh no hope big brother isnt watching....argh im being traced as I type) you can copywright regular words

For example pharmacutical companies have copywrighted the words adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, as trademark products, so now in medicine and the neurological world we must call them apinaphrine and nor-apinaphrine....or pay royalties. Cant see why rovers case would be any different....if they did it right

NOT THAT I DONT THINK ITS A BIT REDICULOUS THOUGH...

Land Rover recently took action against a Chinese company that was using the same characters in it's name as Land Rover has been using to identify it's brand for the last few decades. I think they were successful in that action.

For a long time Land Rover were so proud of the fact that the name had become generic (like Jeep) for a real 4WD. Often in news reports 4WDs were reported as 'Land Rovers" whether they were or not, and this actually did the company more good than harm.

Paranoid litigation wastes company time and resources and alienates people. As if anyone would confuse a small 'Rover' company, with the real 'Land Rover.'
