Well I hate to skite but I'm currently sitting in Macdonalds in Solihull and am going to get an early night's sleep before running across the road to take part in my Gold Package factory tour and test range drive in a brand new RR Sport.

Has anyone done the tour before? any tips?

I'm almost jumping out of my skin looking at the entrance to the Land Rover grounds!!
I was invited to the LR family day at Gayton by Camellandy in 08 and had a ball. I didn't get to drive anything but the drives in the RRS and D3 were fantastic.

    You'll love it.

Enjoy the day, I plan on doing the same tour before we leave the UK in September. I'm only just 'up the road' so to speak from you at the moment in Derby, had I known you were local I'd not have put the G4 in to have the suspension replaced today & tomorrow, could've met up for a beer !!

    Take plenty of photos

4 years ago we spent the night in the motorhome parked in the office carpark at Solihull. It was then a case of get up and drive the 50m to the main gate, then around to the factory tour office the next morning. Had an excellent morning too.

    And now it is done......

    G'day again All,

Well I've finally found a few minutes to spend on the net and describe the fantastically enjoyable day that the Monster and I had at Solihull the other day. We arrived about 20mins before time and were given coffee and biccies and shown a wonderful array of merchandise, some short promo videos, some camel trophy footage and were able to chat with other enthusiasts who were also there for the factory tour.

The most unfortunate part of the tour was being informed that cameras were not allowed around the production facilities!!!!

We were then loaded into the 47inch Defender "Bus" and driven to the original production line pavilion which is now producing the Vogues and high-end Range Rover lines. This was an in-depth look at the process from bare pannels to finished product and was thoroughly enjoyable. This production line was producing 75 Range Rovers per day, all of which are pre-sold.

We were then taken to the other main pavilion where the defenders are produced on one line and the Sports and Disco 4's are produced on the other. The discos and sports share many components and the "jigs" self adjust between vehicles meaning that the same production line is producing both models simultaneously.

I REALLY enjoyed watching the Defenders being assembled and was able to asscertain that they will NOT be discontinued next year although uncertainty is held regarding their future beyond 2012.

We were then taken to the pannel pressing pavillion where they were punching out a line of Sport pannels. The press is just one hell of an impressive $50m arrangement that is poetry in motion to observe running. BMW installed the press and it really has to be seen to be believed.

Then we returned to the LRE office for a lunch fit for kings and some more promo video material before Mervin ??????? came and asked us to follow him out to our awaiting Range Rover Sport. He then took us on a demonstration drive around the Land Track which finished with the tipping Bridge and the 32 degree side angle ramp!!

Ladies were placed before gentlemen t and the Monster then jumped behind the wheel and was instructed to head for the Jungle track . Mervin made her so comfortable behind the wheel that she confidently completed the track and was all smiles!

I was finally instructed to take over and we did the Land Track a few times before heading back for a quick cuppa. I loved it soooooooooo much!!

We then jumped into a Disco 4 and again attacked the Land (including the 50% decline) before heading across to the Jungle Track again. Mervin has a real knack of instructing possitively and giving feedback that makes the experience thoroughly enjoyable and a real learning experience.

I have been driving 4WD vehicles since I was 7 years old and Mervin taught me a great deal. He also gave the Monster the confidence and motivation to look forward to future 4WD outings.

This was quite certainly one of the best days of my life and I will certainly try to get involved with an LRE operation that is attempting to get started in NSW soon.

I really am grinning permanently from ear to ear and will be for a long time yet!!!!!

The best way to get some photos on here is to post the following links. The second link is just photos of the P38A that we bought to tour around over here. Let me know if these doesn't work properly and I will try another medium.

    Cheers,

    Rohan.

I was wondering that as I read about the 50deg downslope with half the length of a 90.
