    Dealer extra's,are they worth it?

So the dealer I've just bought the X-Tech from has sent me the prices for the extra's such as tinting, paint protection, seat protection etc etc.So the question is is it worth it or not?,seems to me the prices are high such as the tinting at $800,$300 more than the L322 cost at a private shop or paint protection at $1200.Seems like a bit of a cost add on to me. Pat

What I did was get the list, then get private prices and said that they had to match it or not only would they not get the sale of the extars they coulod keep the car as well. I wnated to avoid the hassle of post purchase dropping off and picking up by having it dealer supplied.

Tell them to get real in their pricing.

Ask them why a new car in this day and age has such poor paint and trim that it needs extra protection.

Window tint direct from the supplier (who the dealer will use anyway) will be a lot cheaper.

Ask them to throw it all in for free or you'll buy elsewhere.
After market add on's are the cream for the dealers, Costs them little but charge for huge profit . I sold cars once and you won't believe what goes on in the game, and I didn't work for a small yard either I worked for a main dealership

Dealers' margins are being continually shaved by importers/manufacturers...so they resort to " added extras" to improve "the take" on new vehicles. Some dealerships employ (separate) sales people specifically to leverage additional revenue from the punters full of excitement on their new vehicle purchase: tinting/protection/extended warranty/finance/insurance etc etc etc all of which carry hefty margins for the dealer. simply an extension of the ol' cross-selling slogan: "..you want fries with that?"

go private IF you really need it!

We went with the accessories we wanted through the dealer but that was because it was a lease car so I needed it all done to be counted. Yes I could have got it all cheaper but you would spit if you saw what the charged me for the car so I still came out way ahead.

You do not need to do it all through the Dealer for a Lease. Sure, it counts on the warranty however. You tell the Lease company that you want x from y supplier. e.g. Piranaha to fit and supply dual battery system, snorkel etc. You send the Lease company the Tax Invoice, they will send you a cheque to pay the supplier.

    All good.

I spent 16 years in the pre delivery section of a dealership and I don't think that many of those "protections" are worth the dollar they're charging. Try a can of Scotchgard fabric protection from ColesWorths and regular coats of good polish on your paint. The rustproof product may be ok but if the bloke applying it is under pressure to meet delivery times or maybe just doesn't give a rodents rectum and is cutting corners then the end result will suffer so try to find someone that will let you watch the job get done. With the window tint as Clubagreenie said, shop around on prices as I'm sure you'll do better than the dealers price but give them a chance to match it as there is a trade and retail price on things like this too.
The other issue is warranty. The mob I used to work for warranted items that were part of the deal (window tint, non genuine bullbars, trailer brake controllers etc. etc.) for the full term of the warranty (5yrs/100,000kms) even though these items may normally only carry a 12mth/20,000km warranty from the supplier (this may be a basic consumer law) so there's something else to think about. And don't get me started on extended warranties .

    Cheers,
    Anthony.

Tint - I would take it to one of the major tint companies, should be around $400.
Paint protection is a waste of time. Is supposed to stop damage from bird turds and does not.
Upholstery protection is a good idea, but cans of scotchguard are as good if applied correctly.
We had all this done by the dealer with the Statesman as a prestige pack and I would not do any of it through a dealer again.
By the way typing this sitting in Kalbarri overlooking the inlet,
